The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says drug traffickers must be placed on an isolated island to ensure they do not continue with their criminal activities from inside prison.
The Ministry of Health said that the Cardinal had expressed this opinion at a meeting with Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne today.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Cardinal had noted that there was a huge outcry over a recent statement he had made on the death penalty for drug traffickers.

It would be nice to put all prisoners on an isolated island. Maybe we could make man made islands for different le els of crimes.

Colombo, that’s Sri Lanka in this case. That seems less harsh than the way some Asian countries are dealing with it, not just the Philippines. It seems to be a real plague. It is in the US as well though, obviously, we won’t be going this route.

This is a good example of why Pope Francis was unwise to put a circumstantial, prudential judgment in a universal catechism as if it were an absolute, when the circumstances are variable from place to place. Subsidiarity should have been observed here. Let those pastors in those particular places and circumstances pass judgment (Pope Francis himself has claimed to be against centralization…)

It worked well for Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and Ben Linus. Why not?

Of course not. In the USA, islands are coveted real estate!
