Cardinal Theodore McCarrick under pressure for inappropriate sexual advances and relations with males resigns from the College of Cardinals. He doesn’t deny the allegations but says he doesn’t remember if they occurred or not. Is this a credible response? Hardly! The book on him was he engaged a sexual predatory behavior going back decades and yet moved up the Roman Catholic hierarchal ladder unimpeded. Shameful!

He’s got one foot in the grave. While they’re still trying to sort out what he does and doesn’t remember from 10, 20 or 40 years ago, he’ll probably die.

It’s good he resigned. I’m surprised it took this long actually.

Last night Raymond Arroyo had a guest on his EWTN program discussing this latest scandal. Marjorie Murphy Campbell is a lawyer who wants a lay group to investigate McCarrick’s predatory behavior since his fellow bishops dropped the ball on it. Arroyo stated that 15 years ago the buzz on the cardinal’s sexual improprieties was common knowledge. I doubt that will occur but the bishops have some splaining to do.

I pray that all of the clergy who have abused their positions, especially bishops, repent, confess, and do penance for their crimes and sins.

I’m not following the story. There are too many Catholic scandals and crimes to keep up with, frankly.

But how can a man not remember whether they occurred? That’s just nuts. He’s either lying or mentally ill.

If it happened, it happened, and he should pay for it, whether he forgot them or is lying.

If he’s truly forgetful, he can be mindful of the pain of what it’s like to be punished for seemingly no reason and apply that to a life of penance.

I think you’re right in this case. But an Aussie Archbishop has been found guilty of a cover up and protecting a pedopohile priest. So far he hasn’t resigned. The Aussie Prime Minister thinks he should resign.
I think by them not resigning , they give the Church, the brand, a bad name.
 
And we are only as good as our worst member . So we must strive to get that bar up and keep it there
 
He is awaiting the outcome of his appeal. Justice is still being served.

His lawyer probably encouraged his case of convenient memory. When people are 88 years old they’re capable of forgetting all kinds of things, either because they have memory issues due to aging, or because it’s stuff they didn’t want to remember anyway, or some of each.

Unfortunately this is just another case of the allegations coming out after it is way too late to have much practical effect on the life of the perpetrator.
 
If McCarrick has any fear of God he’ll spend the rest of the time he has on Earth praying, doing penance, and attempting to make whatever restitution he can.
 
What was he doing on the College of Cardinals if his mind is supposedly shot? Agree, a lawyer must have orchestrated this canard.
