Greetings to All.

CARDINAL WALTER KASPER HERETIC?

I have read some disturbing information regarding Cardinal Walter Kasper.

Please discuss his ideas of:
  • Eucharistic Hospitality (giving the Holy Eucharist to Non-Catholics)
  • **His view of the Resurrection **( I have read he has an anti-Catholic view, i.e. that the Resurrection is not historical nor verifiable)
  • Rejecting the Ecumenism of Return
  • Catholic Dogma being one-sided
  • Believing an Ecumenical Council needs Heretics and Schismatics to be truly Ecumenical
  • Also if any of these are true, then discuss why he was appointed as Cardinal, by who, and why he still the president of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity?
This thread is meant to be polite and without needless disruption. I would like to hear views especially from those who consider themselves traditional Catholic. But of course others are welcome to respond.

It would be helpful if at first you were able to provide us links proving these are his ideas.

Please link to his writings and/or speeches on these topics. We can’t very well discuss it without reading it. I have never read his work.

I apologize as I was merely browsing the web and accidentally stumbled upon Cardinal Kasper. I was not trying to prove anything but was trying to determine if others are familiar with him and whether these apparent heretical ideologies are in fact his fabrications.

Here is one link:72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:-wXt3Yq1HUAJ:www.seattlecatholic.com/article_20040406.html+Cardinal+Kasper+heretic&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=16&gl=ca&client=firefox-a

The name Cardinal Kasper should be highlighted in the document.

Thanks for the link. it adresses the ecumenism issue but not the others. Although i dont agree with his vews on Ecumenism they hardly make him a heretic.

I, too, have long heard that Cardinal Kasper
holds, or at least on occasion has EXPRESSED,
the ideas you describe.

I would hope that he has modified them somewhat so as
to be in harmony with the Catholic magisterium.

Please note that a formal heretic is not merely someone who has expressed a screwball belief for a time. A heretic must have his error(s) explained to him thoroughly and defiantly hold to them pertinaciously in spite of thorough correction. Otherewise, even if his views are heretical, they would only be “materially” heretical.

I would encourage you to post directly to links by the cardinal. Links to sspx sites that make comments respect to the cardinal writings can easily turn this thread in gossip and bearing false witness.
The way it is presented looks more like character assassination than critical analysis of someone’s writings.
I am not saying that the cardinal is not wrong I am just saying that because of the way this post is presented, it looks like a troll.

Cdl. Kasper’s statements often seem to undermine the Church’s positions - he is at best often misleading - so regardless of whether he is a heretic or not I have always thought it rather unwise to entrust him with any position of public prominence in which he is called upon to enunciate Catholic doctrine.

From the link given he looks to me like the Catholic version of Bishops Spong

I don’t think I would go that far - he wrote an entire book on Trinitarian theology, so he’s nowhere near as bad as Spong. That said, I wrote what I did because I think we hardly need to make and prove accusations of heresy before we assess the prudence of having someone with his character in charge of promoting Christian unity.
