If so, shouldn’t helping the poor be the ONE thing we as Christians should ALL agree the government should assist in? Out of all the things, shouldn’t we as Christians agree that our taxes should at least help the poor?
What do you mean by helping the poor?
I don’t think our taxes owe a basic income to the poor, but we do owe them basic infrastructure, an education, and opportunity.

Describe it how you want, I think we owe them the means to survival. Shelter, food, employment, what have you.

but sometimes, it also means money to spend.

In justice, the wealthy owe the poor the necessities of life.

In solidarity, the community ultimately bears this debt to the poor.

In subsidiarity, those who have wealth and are closer to the poor are their first-responders, i.e., family, friends, neighbors, city, county, state and lastly, the federal government.

I don’t think that’s the role of the govt.
I encourage you to use your own money to give them spending cash
