I came across this very disturbing story on Friday, then researched it on the web over the weekend. I’ve posted what I came up with. I guess what disturbs me most about it is that I’d never read all of this put together before nor considered the overall import of what was happening.

I found out as much as I could about it and put it on my blog where I also have links to the three articles I read about and summarized.

Here it is:

On July 1st, Caritas Christi, the Catholic Health care system run by the Archdiocese of Boston, will enter into a contract with a subsidiary of the Centene Corporation to provide “reproductive services," such as abortion, sterilization, contraception, and counseling for Commonwealth Care (the compulsory state health care system) members in Massachusetts.

Despite the fig leaf of Centene’s subsidiary doing the actual dirty work, Caritas will profit from the relationship and will in fact be counseling patients to receive those immoral services from Centene, even to the point of transporting patients to abortion facilities. The Massachusetts plan foreshadows the national model under consideration by the Obama Administration.

There’s a link to the Archdiocese of Boston for you to send an appropriate “Say it ain’t so!” message.

I do hope that they are doing this only in order to have the opportunity to discuss abortion with the women…

More than sad is the way they were outmanipulated by the Attorney General of MA and the state house pols who justified their intervention in the archdiocesan health care system by saying they could no longer watch it “flounder.” According to the articles I read this whole thing came about by mismanagement of the system.

Crediting them with some master plan of an end run of some sorts doesn’t appear to be in the story. Maybe it’s all internet lies and innuendo but by getting it out there I hope to see some kind of an answer.
 
The main discussion forum on this was closed by the moderator because some folks got inflamed at Cardinal O’Malley.

The event remains however. The newest wrinkle is up on my blog with a link to the previous articles. A lot of this remains shrouded in mystery. Now it appears that Caritas Christi is requesting a “change to the agreement” after a firm statement by the Archbishop.

This little story has a lot riding on it and will cast a huge shadow over Obama Care. Cardinal O’Malley really needs to sit down and be interviewed by the Pilot to put all this to rest. The more stories, the less I understand, frankly.
