Has any heard of the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Carmelite Monastery) in Powell, Wyoming. I just recieved a brochure from them asking for money. They have no web site. They do appear to be on the up and up.

Here is their web site: carmelitemonks.org/

There was an earlier thread about this new foundation.

Definitely on the up and up!

They do have a web site.

Carmelite Monks of Wyoming

They are established as a Public Association of the Christian Faithful by his Excellency, Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese of Cheyenne.

I believe that they follow the Rule of St Albert (the Carmelite Rule) but they are not affiliated with either the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (O.Carm) or with the Disclaced Carmelite Order (O.C.D.).

From what I can tell they are on the up and up and they are using the old Carmelite Rite which the O.Carm. surrendered in the early '70’s.

I have their CD “Mystical Chants of Carmel.” I really like it. As far as I can tell, they are very orthodox. We need more contemplative orders of men like that.

I just bought some for my sister-in-law. She is not religious. Neither is my brother. But i think this is a neat kind of witness. I buy chocolates and cheese from the Trappists in South as gifts too.

I hear there is an order in Oregon or Washington with great fudge. Not sure of the name or if they are orthodox- that should be the key IMO in supporting these works of monks and nuns.

This is IMO a great witness and gift during the holidays. When it is so hard sometimes to find gifts.

I’d love to see a list of orthodox monasteries that offer food produts as their support. I only know of a couple.

Hello,

And greetings from Wyoming. Yes I believe it is good to support the good works of monks and nuns. I am living with a group of nuns here in Wyoming. Pray for us! We are not yet public and could use prayers.

If you are interested in supporting religious life there is a great resource here Laser Monks They have an online cataloge and a great gift cataloge you can order in the snailmail. That way you can help many religious with access to alot of different products. Great Christmas Gifts.

God Bless and enjoy the coffee and treats! They are heavenly indeed!👍

I was just searching for information on this monastery and found this old thread. I have been sampling their coffee for a few months and find it very satisfying; and with all of the varieties, you can find the exact brew for your own taste!

Now I don’t have to buy one of those designer coffees at the market or on the street corner. And I feel good helping such a good cause. They are building a new, bigger monastery because they have so many new vocations. So if you want to buy a couple of packages of their coffee instead of giving to another charity – or better yet, give your parish a gift certificate and “kill two birds with one stone”!😉

The website for the coffee is mysticmonkcoffee.org.

I like to buy organic, shade-grown, fair trade coffee.

Does this describe the monks’ coffee?

They do have Fair Trade Organic. I as well try to buy those coffees. The monks also offer other roasts from other parts of the world. It makes sense that they will always do business with an eye to being fair.

As per UNIVERSAE ECCLESIAE -
The Rites of Religious Orders
34. The use of the liturgical books proper to the Religious Orders which were in effect in 1962 is permitted.

Has anyone tried their coffee?
I have. It’s very good. One of my brothers bought it to share as a Christmas gift. He always has the best ideas- this time to purchase gifts that support a good Catholic cause.👍

Hi from Upstate NY! Yes, I’ve heard of the Carmelite Monks in your state! From what I’ve read about them, they are wonderful! Also heard of their coffee, too!

I have the CD ‘Mystic Chants From Mount Carmel’-beautiful! It’s always nice to hear the sounds of male voices doing Gregorian Chant!

I hear there are wildfires in Wyoming-are you or the monks in any danger? I’m also thinking of Wyoming Catholic College. I hope they’re out of harm’s way, too.

This does not apply to the Carmelite Monks in Wyoming as they are not a religious order and do not have any such rite as spoken of by UE.
Hmm, can Bishop the make a provision?

Why are they allowed to celebrate it? The Bishop and the Pope are aware of them.
