Anyone interested becoming a carthusian monk or nun? They are a contemplative order, just like the carmelites or the poor clares. Meaning, their apostolate consists of prayer. They pray for the whole church

But you must first learn Italian or French because most of them are in europe

I find the carthusian way of life austere and very solitary

There are books about Vocations Explained that is in the public Domain. I find them very helpful

The documentary “Into Great Silence” was very well done also. It documented the lives of the Carthusian Religious in the French Alps in the mid 80’s

For men who speak English, there is a Carthusian charterhouse in the US and a charterhouse in England.

The US charterhouse is located in Vermont
Charterhouse of the Transfiguration

The charterhouse in England is located at Parkminster
St. Hugh’s Charterhouse

The priest who writes a blog called The hermeneutic of continuity has been granted permission to photograph extensively at Parkminster. When he writes about these visits, his blog shines some light on what life is like for the Carthusians there.

As Sky1 mentioned, most are in Europe, however women have the option of South Korea. Men also have the option of South Korea, but also Brazil and Argentina.
 
I am. There is actually a charterhouse in the USA, The Chaterhouse of the Transfiguration in Vermont, and there is also one in UK, St. Hugh’s Charterhouse Parkminster, both English speaking. They also have their own form of the Mass that is VERY old. Very humble and prayerful lives.
 
I am and I live near monastery in Slovenia (Pleterje). Yesterday I was at mass in Charterhouse.
Very peaceful. I just love it!🙂

I am posting this here as well as a couple of other places in the forum where those who might be interested tend to hand out.

For anyone who is interested, I have started a Facebook group for discussion of Monastic Spirituality. I am hopeful that it can be a place for Catholics in the Latin Church such as those affiliated with the Benedictine or Carthusian Family to have discussions with Eastern Christians, both Catholic and Orthodox, who quite obviously have an incredible and rich monastic tradition.

For some reason, there are many people who avidly discuss Catholicism and Orthodoxy on Facebook but who do not wish to come to a forum specifically for that purpose. I am hopeful that this page can capture some of those as well as some of the great members we have here as well.

In 1999 I was contemplating a vocation and on the advice of my spiritual director he offered I look into monastic orders. I researched some of themand was drawn to the Carthusians. I was in college in NH at the time, and thought we could visit the Vermont charterhouse since it was relatively close. Well, my spiritual director inquired about a visit.Needless to say I did not visit, they are very strict about visitor. You can contact them but you will have to ensure that you are serious about your vocation. I only “thought” I was serious, and so I never went after we talked about discernment. I encourage you to fully research this order, they are about as serious as a monasticorder/ life gets. And Into Great Silence is a great introduction into their way of life.

I am sorry for my English, becouse my mother language is Frensch and Catalan. I was in Postulation in Order, and now I weitting for comming to Order.

In this horrible age, only this order is pure, and traditional. Also Trappists, and Cistercians.
Bud Dominicans, Franciscans, Premonstats- are modernists, and liberals.
Only Carthusian order is pure, without touching of Vatican II. demages.
Yes, I weitting in Finnland. I practise also in Finnland, in home but I have problems with governement, becouse I will serving God, not this terrible society in Finnland.
I comming to Finnland for living in forest like hermit,and serving God , not for serving Godless society in this country. And this is hard.
I living in Finnland in forest 30km from Kuopio town, and I weitting for returnet to Order.
 
Vatican II was a legitimate council 🙂

Father Serpa is a Dominican here and rock solid.

Many monks that I know are wacko.

Beware sweeping generalizations. They aren’t very Christ-like.😉
 
Yes, but after Vatican II. the Chuch is full of modernist heresy. Ecumenism is not possible. becouse is only one Truth, Catholic, Apostolic Truth! Liberalism, modernism lead to ateism, and many Orders like Dominicans, Frantiscans are modernists.
Til example, Frantiscans starting “The Mass for children”- parody for Mass, and sacrilege.
I am sorry for my bad English, becouse my mother language is Frensch.
But the Carthusian Order is pure without demages in liturgy.
The Carthusian liturgy is still original, and spirituality is original.

This Carthusian way is still pure. Life in Order is simple, in solitude and silence.
 
So long time I seeking priest who know the old Carthusian rite. But I living in Finnland, and this coutry is lutheran and Godless! I seeking in the world, and now about 3 days, I know one priest, who have Friendship with Order and he know the Carthusian rite, and he will comming to Finland and celebrate for me. I am so happy!
