Hi all,

This is my first post, as I just joined a few moments ago. I’ve been married for just over three years. I love my wife and am absolutely certain I’d be nothing without her. However, Friday of last week I was out with a friend and got very drunk. I ended up finding a prostitute on the internet and ended up meeting her. I had never even thought of doing such a thing before, let alone go through with it. It was quite short, from what I remember. I say from what I remember because I have no clear recollection of how I got home. Since then, I have been dealing with intense guilt. Loss of sleep, loss of appetite, loss of hope and therefore purpose. I’m thinking of going to confession. But I’m wondering…can this be forgiven? Am I damned for all time? Will confession help with my guilt? I’ve already resolved not to do this again and have made sure to treat my wife with all of the love I always have. I’m just hoping all is not lost, as the two things I know I can’t live with are God and her.

Go to confession. Your guilt may subside afterward, but anything left is on you. It is your reminder to never do that again. If you are drinking to the point of drunkenness that leads you to make reckless choices, you may have a drinking problem. Either give it up on your own, or get help.

You might want to remove your name from your profile.

Yes, your sins can be forgiven in confession. You may still have lingering feelings of guilt. You will have to get yourself checked out by a medical professional for STD’s. It would be a terrible thing to pass any along to your wife.

You need to confess the drunkenness as well as the infidelity. Yes, it can and will be forgiven if you are sincere. The consequences of the sins, however; will still exist.

It’s not my actual name. I just couldn’t think of anything else.

I don’t mean your username, I mean the name on your profile page.

Go to confession and to a clinic to be tested for STDs.

Sounds as if you have a drinking problem, blacking out is NOT normal, so stop drinking.

Follow the advice of your priest.
