Cassocks and Birettas

Do your parish priests wear eather a cassock or a biretta, or both, or none.

My Pastor routinely wears his black cassock and has started wearing the biretta at Mass.
 
Some of our Priests do. One who is my friend presides at a traditional Latin Rite parish ans he wears both.

I’m in a Conventual Franciscan parish (and the next parish over is as well) and these two items in the poll are objects, generally, never found.
 
The pastor of my EF/OF parish wears a cassock most of the time around the parish, and always during the Mass. He wears a biretta processing in and out during the Latin Mass, and at the OF during the Processional, the First and Second Readings, and the Recessional. He does a “hat tip” during the readings when Christ’s name is mentioned.
 
My parochial vicar, who is a sucker for being traditional, 😃 wears a cassock often. My pastor wears the regular clerics.
 
My now deceased Byzantine Catholic priest used to wear a riassa. Other than that I haven’t seen any local priests wear a cassock except for very special circumstances like a retired monsignor leading a funeral rosary for his brother, although some Franciscans do wear their habits from time to time.

I don’t believe I have ever seen a priest wear a biretta, not even at EF Masses.
 
My priest only has one dress cassock from the 1960s when he was in seminary. He only wear it under his surplice. In other words, never.
 
What about the option for Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts?
 
I voted “Biretta and Cassock” only because you didn’t have “Biretta, Cassock, and Maniple” 🙂

(You should start a second poll for deacons, so I can vote “Biretta, Cassock, and Maniple” in honor of the deacons at my parish. 😃 )
 
none of my parish priests wear the cassock and biretta. my spiritual director normally doesn’t wear a cassock but I’ve seen him wear one twice during a regular mass. if he is emceeing at our Cathedral he would wear cassock and surplice

Deacons wear maniples in the EF?
 
All tabby’s here, but more of the younger priests are wearing cassocks. Only one I know of brave enough to wear a biretta outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, though the ones who celebrate the EF wear them during. Some of the other ones wear vests at least, haha. Back at __________ the priest monks wear clerical shirts when they go out. :rolleyes:
 
We have a younger priest at our parish who wears a biretta and a cassock. The man is literally a genius, so maybe it’s the smart thing to do.🙂

Pretty much every priest in my diocese wears none of the above, including the Bishop. I asked the Bishop once, “No cassock?”; he says no because it’s hot (this is Hawaii).

Marian priests here even just wear an Aloha shirt. I’m not sure how that works out – as I understand it, the USCCB has the task of deciding what the priests can wear, and I can’t imagine them allowing for the Aloha shirt. I can see the Bishop permitting that but I doubt the USCCB bothers micromanaging the different acceptable clerical clothes.

Anyway at the most, they’d wear the clerical shirt (I don’t even see them wear clerical suits), and I guess nobody wears the biretta because it would look odd without a full cassock.

There is a priest who does Tridentine Mass here and I’ve never even seen him in a cassock or biretta; for the Easter Vigil I think I spotted him just wearing a plain shirt, slacks and jacket.

I’m in Hawaii and some priests actually do wear Hawaiian shirts. But it’s not party animal clothing in the context of Hawaii; businessmen and politicians typically wear them too, not suits.
