Cassocks: when was the last time you saw one?

I have a question. I’ve seen a priest wearing a cassock outside of mass, but during mass they are usually wearing the colored vestaments, depending on the liturgical season. When you all are talking about a priest wearing a cassock at mass, do you mean underneath the vestaments, or in place of…?
 
The last time I saw a cassock was Tuesday, April 8, 2008, though the priest was not technically diocesan, but instead belonged to the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest. I have never seen a diocesan priest in a cassock in person.

Underneath. Not in place of the Mass vestments.

It has been my experience that the priests who wear cassocks are much more concerned with correctly wearing vestments during Mass than most priests. And it is the ones who never look like priests - like wearing flannel 365 days a year instead of a cassock or clerics - who are the one who like to war blue during advent or the stole over their chasuble.

The last time I saw a priest wearing a cassock was my college chaplain, a Navy chaplain, in the early 90’s. He did not wear it often, but every once in a while he would. I once saw him wearing one at a wedding rehearsal. I could also see that he had jeans and hiking boots on under the cassock. When I asked him about it he told that he had been working out in his garden and lost track of time. When he remembered the rehearsal, he did not have enough time to wash up and change, so the just threw on the cassock.

As far as alterboys/girls, they still where the cassock and surplice in my current parish.
 
our Priest Father William is a benedictine monk and so wears his long cloakey thing, I cant recall what its called. there may be a piture of him on the website in my signature. also lovely pictures and a video of my church 😃

Actually, I just noticed this today before mass began. Our Pastor came on the Altar to set up for mass and I noticed that he is wearing a cassock. I was surprised and also happy to see this and wondered why all of the sudden this change.
I also noticed that when he says mass some parts are in Latin. I really wish I grew up during the time Latin was used during mass. When certain prayers are sung in Latin I have to sit quietly because I don’t know what they are singing.😦
 
Thank you Brendan for this website I will print it out to help me learn the different Latin songs that are song during mass.
 
Our pastor wears a cassock most of the time. I have even seen him wear it to a local restaurant.

Maybe,lol. But I just started to see this in the past couple of months and I wondered why the change. Are we starting to go more traditional? If so, I think it is a good change.🙂

I think part of it is that young people are tending to be more traditional than thier parents, and partly becuase, well, if we have such cool things availible to priests, why would they just wear a tshirt all the time
