Here is a conversation I had with a “Traditional Catholic” at my Eastern parish a month after the MP was promulgated:

*Me: Are you going to check out the Tridentine at Saint Paul’s?

Traditional Catholic (TC): Nope.

Me: What? I thought you were gung-ho for the Tridentine Mass?

TC: A society priest is not celebrating the Mass!

Me: A what?

TC: You know, a society priest.

Me: Are you talking about the FSSP?

TC: No, the society. The Society of Saint Pius X. They are the only ones I trust with the TLM. They kept it pure and brought it back.*

Me: -= Walks away shaking my head =-

It’s that sorta mindset that does the most damage to the Church.

Well then, she doesn’t need you or me, either.

Nice to feel so wanted, isn’t it? 😦
No, that’s PRECISELY correct…She DOESN’T! That’s the reason we’ve no reason to be proud, no reason to boast, according to Saint Paul. What we have, we have by sheer Grace. It’s a Grace we have to walk in and persevere in, but it’s ours if we will have it…as it is the SSPX’s.

Pro Vobis you have just no clue as to what you are talking about.
You could be right about that. I must be thinking about something else.
If any valid Pope tells a priest or bishop “you can’t say the old mass unless you have my permission…” then you must obey. THE POPE IS THE BOSS!!! VATICAN I TEACHES THIS!!! The Pope must be obeyed not only in matters of faith and morals, but also in matters of discipline!!!
Precisely. And the Pope says that the Latin Mass was never abrogated and every priest always had the right to say it. Did Paul VI ask the Archbishop to hold his breath for the sake of obedience too? 🙂
YOU GIVE ME CHEST PAINS EVERYTIME I READ YOUR POSTS!!!
Not to sound too arrogant but I’ll take that as a compliment. See, for a while, I though no one was reading my notes. You do remember that I don’t consider myself a trad, right? But I do like to see a fair trial given; right now it’s over 1 billion Catholics who enjoy all the comforts at home with the New Age stuff against 1 million “schismatics” who wish they had a home.

But I have to head back to work now so enjoy torturing those who have fewer in their numbers than you do.

I hardly think that 1 billiion of us are engaged in anything remotely New Age (though some may well be) and the “schismatics” have always had a home to which they might come.

Don’t kid yourself.

That’s a very Catholic mindset. A Catholic should be very discerning about the quality of the priests they choose from those available.

If the Catechism of Trent points out how one should be discerning about the priest they choose to go to confession to, how much more discerning should be they be about how the priest offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?

Do you have a statement from Rome with proof that the conversation actually took place? I personally believe you, but some others will assume your story false since it’s anonymous.

It had nothing to do with their position. I was just wondering why he questions the credibility of this particular information, but nobody questions the credibility of the negative information “leaked” from random blogs.
The same reason no one of the same mindset will touch the subject of disobedient bishops that are supposedly in communion with the pope.

I_Believe:
The SSPX has been asked to show humility and respect for the papacy, yet we have bishops blatantly ignoring, and in some cases, blocking the wishes of BXVI in regards to his SP. Is this not disobedience ?

Nothing like facts to kill a thread for six hours.

You spiller killer you 😃

That guy turned out to be a whack-job…

I would never attend a service presided over by an SSPX minister.

And this is news to us? 😃
Hey, I’m shocked. See?:bigyikes:

You know what would be ironic would be if the (when?) the SSPX is in full communion with Rome that some of their priests get mainstreamed into dioceses and end up as a priest for me or Spiller.

What would be more ironic is if they convert us to die hard traditionalists.

We can only pray:highprayer:

Spiller will be wearing a paper bag over his head then. 😃

Gee, what’s with all the “Spiller hating”? 😛 🤷
I rolled myself in with him (her?) on my post. But there is no meaness going on; just good-natured jesting. I think out different factions need to deal with each other light-heartedly a little more so that times of bickering can be lessened.

I really did find ProVobis post funny, and it strucka chord.

All in good fun, and we seem to need a little of that lately. 👍
