Catechism and the Bible

Hello everyone, i was not sure where to post this question but here goes. i have been trying to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church along with reading the Bible. However i have six young children and don’t get much time throughout the day to read. maybe an hour in the afternoon and and hour before bed. so i want to make the most of the time i have. i just wanted some opinions as to how much time i should spend with each book or if i should just concentrate i getting completly through the catechism and or the bible one at a time. any suggestions on managing my reading time would be most helpful. thanks have a great day rob c.

There is a group on Yahoo (here) that will email you Scripture and Catechism readings each day, if you read them daily, you will have read through the bible and catechism in one year. Other than that I don’t know what to tell you other than pick it up when you have a minute and just read a few paragraphs.

I don’t know if this will help, but in the back of the CCC there is an “Index of Citations” of verses from the Bible which can be cross-checked with the CCC.

You are to be congradulated for your efforts.

As one who has read both books cover to cover mutiple times I offer the following advice.

First and foremost to understanding, living and sharing our faith is a good understanding of the bible. I use a yellow hi-lighter so when I reread I don’t have to read the entire bible again. If what I have hi-lighted does not supply my current needs it at least gets me in the right area:thumbsup:

So read the bible first.

You might consider once finding the biblical grounds for a Catholic Teaching, to then look that teaching up in the CCC, and see what it says.

You can add the CCC to your computers desk top with an Icon, and it has both “word search” and “number search.”

thank you for the suggestions. i ended up going this morning to a catholic store about 30 minutes a way. to my suprise i found for 99 cents a reading plan to read the catechism and bible in one year. not sure if that is a good way to try it but i’ll see. its only about 30 min of reading a day. somedays i would want to read more, but that could make up for a day i don’t get to read. i also got a book called " St Francis of Assisi A Biography" by omer englebert. i am going to start that right away. that store was great i bought a sacred heart medal to wear on the same chain as my st francis medal. i also got a brown scapular. all for 12 bucks. i will be back to that store again soon. anybody in the area its st anne’s gifts in orland park illinois.
