Catechism Organization

Hello all,
I am trying to make the Catechism a little more user friendly. I want to organize it in a way to where if someone asks me a specific question, I can flip to a certain area quickly and answer the question. Any help would be great.

I don’t really see the Catechism working that way.

I’m not trying to discourage you but it realy insn’t desgined like an encyclopedia to be an alphabetized reference for individual subjects. I don’t know how one would do that.

The Catechism is divided into four parts; 1) God’s revelation, 2) the Church, 3) Christian life, 4) prayer.

In terms of the daily life of individual Christians, I think most of your focus will be on part three; The Life of Faith. This is where we find the Church’s teaching on abortion, contraception, gambling, drugs, etc., based on the ten commandments.

Arn’t there already books like this, reader’s digest or cliff notes versions?

There are several formats of the Catechism beside the regular one that may help you.

I suggest you look at the Compendium of CCC and YouCat.

Both are in question form and follow the format that TimothyH mentioned.

I received the Compendium at WYD08 in Sydney, and YouCat from WYD11 as gift from the Pope through the organisers of WYD.

Both are very useful tool and I would not go to my bible study without it.

I guess I’m not sure exactly what you are looking for. I just look online and use the search function:

The CCC has an index as well. The prologue tells you about the general layout of the CCC.

As others have posted, the US Catechism for Adults, the Compendium, and YOUCAT are all great tools for catechesis that are keyed to the CCC.

A couple of ideas,

Have you read 'the Compendium Catechism of the CC?" It is a Q and A Format.

Also here is a site where you can “search” the catechism

There’s also an online Search utility for the Catechism which lets you search the Catechism by book, chapter and verse (which you cannot do on the St. Charles Borromeo site:

Thanks again everyone for the help…The reason I ask this question is because I am involved in RCIA at my parish and one of the lessons later this year is how to help the candidates get answers by using the CCC, bible, etc. Just trying to find ways to make things easier for them to get their answers.
