That’s why we have the Dogmatic Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, and countles Encyclicals and Motu Proprio regarding sacred music from Pontiffs of the 20th centurySacrosanctum Concilium is a binding document, and the Motu Proprios are equally binding. You can find all these on the Vatican website, too, but they’re more centralized on the Adoremus site:
Thanks for all the info. Bought a set of the Adoremus organ hymn books but so far I can’t get anybody interested. Barney Mass are big along with Twist and Shout Masses.
Anything pre Vatican 2 these folks seem to think is null and void.

Somewhere on this Forum I learned that Assumption Grotto in Detroit has reverent liturgy with excellent music. I’m from New York, but when in Detroit last weekend, popped on over to the Grotto for their 9:30 Latin Novus Ordo Mass accompanied by a dedicated amateur choir, singing polyphony. My husband and I nearly had to be removed by force – we could have stayed forever!
This isn’t an age/youth spat, this is a culture feud. And just to be feisty, and speaking as a convert who had to acquire a goodly dose of “Catholic” culture, I believe the Church would do more good for the world by evangelizing people into its culture than by inculturating itself into the ambient culture.
I suspect our liturgical director is attempting to overrule all the Church documents cited in this thread with her parish “survey results.” But can you elaborate on what goes on at the Barney (I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family? --this sounds like a typical Sunday sermon in my parish, so that I may be familiar with) and Twist and Shout masses (praise and worship with lots of hand clapping?)?CatholicNerd:![]()

For a start who is running the show ? Every parish I visit seems to have a different take on it.Tom,
As a musician, and worship leader, I am very interested in this thread. Are there any particular concerns that you have about liturgical music? I’d love to discuss these with you.
