This is going to be a vent thread so here it goes.

I have been tired of reading people commenting that the Pope is not CONSERVATIVE enough or the pope is LIBERAL !!!

what the heck !!! The pope is not even American.

Stop categorizing the Catholic Church as the Republican Party or Democrat

The Church stands alone.

The Church is pro-life.

The Church is against contraception

THe Church believes in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman

THe Church says Thou shall not kill…

THe Church believes and supports in positive modern developments such as ADULT stem cells.

The Church believes in treating all people with dignity and respect and that includes illegal immigrants.

The Church ADVISES us to vote for politicians who have SINCERE CATHOLIC VALUES

but the CHURCH is not a political party… Do not confuse the Church as being Republican or Democrat

The CHURCH STANDS ALONE !!!

:amen:

More people in the U.S. need to hear this. Many people are leaving the Church because they have more loyalty to the Democratic Party than to the Catholic Church. Not that it doesn’t happen with Republicans as well.

Americans need to stop thinking of the Church as a political body. Political parties listen to the voice of the people… the Church listens to the voice of Jesus Christ. The world is changing a whole lot politically. But, the voice of Jesus Christ isn’t changing at all.

As G.K. Chesterton said: “Progress should mean that we are always changing the world to suit a vision. Progress does mean (just now) that we are always changing the vision…”

The Catholic Church has been striving to attain the same goals for 2,000 years. The world changes the goals it seeks all the time.

Well said.

Judging from recent as well as ancient history I am forced to disagree, since gaining a position of authority during the reign of Constantine the church has always been what today we would as describe as “center right”.

Think about it, today Republicans claim Democrats to be godless heathens, when only two hundred years ago the Enlightenment as whole as well as Liberal values were condemned as heretics by the Catholic Church of the day.

Less than one hundred years ago voting for a leftist party warranted an automatic excommunication, and people were regularly denied the Eucharist for not supporting the church favored party. Even still today it is forbidden to support a socialist party (even “Christian Socialism”) since the Church disapproves of their opinions of holding property.

The Catholic Church is decidedly right wing, and very very very strongly anti leftist. I mean look at the Vatican city! Do you see any democracy or voting going on outside of the College of Cardinals? Of course not! It’s a Theocratic Monarchy.

I’ve got no problem with that, but it’s a fallacy to say the Church does not have a political stance when it always has done.

Its The Church, it is for what is right. Governments have come and gone and we are still here.

The church does not have a political stance… It has its own belief. IT is neither REPUBLICAN NOR DEMOCRAT because THE CHURCH IS NOT AMERICAN…THE CHURCH IS UNIVERSAL

THE CHURCH DOES NOT BOW DOWN TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY AND WILL NOT SUBJECT ITS BELIEFS TO CHANGE JUST BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY SAYS SO…

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE SAME UNIVERSAL CHURCH FOR AMERICA, MEXICO, PHILIPPINES…THE CHURCH DOES NOT BASE ITS TEACHINGS ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OR DEMOCRAT FOR THAT MATTER

Some people just hate the catholic church because of their loyalty of a certain political party and I sense that in some so called catholics in these threads

If you believe in tthe teaching of Jesus Christ then you should find out THE TRUTH…

not the truth base on a political party

Political parties are different on every country

The Catholic Church is the same in all countries of the world. that’s why it is UNIVERSAL

The Church used to be alright with slavery, was that “right”?
According to you? according to some book with political motives? according to history that has been rewritten due to political agenda?

Good grief. I understand what you are saying without the caps lock my freind. No need for that.

You are right the Church does not bow down to a political party, it traditionally has always had a party aligned to or subserviant to its wishes. This has traditionally always been the conservative/republican parties and hence why it has always vehemently condemned other political parties to promote their chosen.

I am not claming the Republican party of America and the Catholic Church are one. I am stating the Catholic Church can, will and always has supported (or founded its own) center right parties or governments in any country.

The only exception has been when it has supported a Monarchy (French Revolution) as this is preferable and until the reformation was easier to control via threats of excommunication. It has proven it will also support dictatorships such as that of Francisco Franco if they are also of the right mindset.

The Church is right wing, there is no debating that.

According to historical fact. I don’t like it, but that is what happened.
I’d much prefer to recall nicer events from our history but I’m not going to lie about what actually happened.

I disagree with you.

If you indeed say you are a Catholic. I hope you grow more into your faith

It is your POLITICAL STANCE that is hindering you from being a TRUE CATHOLIC

You don’t even know what my political stance is! I could be voting for Cuthulu as Emperor of Muffins for all you know!

I am a Catholic, but I am also realistic. I do not want to “sweeten up” anything, I like to state fact as it is.

Yes. I do not know your political stance. But I do know a lot of people who HATE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH and even leave the Church just because the Church WONT BOW DOWN TO their politiical stance regarding abortion etc… therefore CATEGORIZING THE CHURCH AS RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE

THE CHURCH IS NEITHER RIGHT WING NOR LEFT WING !!! IT DOES NOT HAVE A WING 🙂

IT STANDS ALONE ! IT IS NOT A POLITICAL BODY. All politicians for the sake of this country should follow Jesus Christ’s teachings on love for the unborn, the elderly, the homosexuals yes gay people are children of God too but that doesn’t mean the Church approves of same sex relationship…all of us have our own struggles… the Church is a hospital for sinners

You can probably say the REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS MORE CATHOLIC VALUES

but you can NEVER SAY

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS REPUBLICAN

Yes you are so correct. Thank-you.

For if we are called to follow God alone, via the Doctrine and teaching of the Church, should we not be able to give up even our politics and country to do so? Yes, I say.

The Church is in this world but not of it. God does not change. Human nature doesn’t change either but political ideas are in constant flux. What was “Liberal” over a century ago is vastly different today. I remember an uncle who had no problem reconciling his sincere Catholic Faith with his preference for the Democratic Party but that was a long time ago. Today, he’d probably be a Republican or an Independent. So the more apt question may be which party or point of view is more aligned with Church teaching. The Church has forbade membership in the Communist Party, at a time when the Party was killing millions and actively persecuting the Church. One of the objectives of the French revolution was to destroy the Church. How could a French Catholic support the Revolution in good conscience? One of our political parties maintains a steadfast pro-abortion plank. Need I say more?

To say “conservative” or “liberal”, especially with a “too” qualifier, seems to suggest a line from left to right. It ignores the center point.

I prefer a visual of the typical concentric circle target. The bullseye is in the center. Outer rings have less value whether they are the left of right side.

That Bulleye is God’s Will - as in the Lord’s Prayer: Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Hard to see how some laws recently passed can claim to be God’s Will in Heaven and thus should be done on Earth.

And Christ gave us the two greatest Commandments: Love God and love others for the sake of loving God. (paraphrased). Love is doing what is good for the loved one. Is not helping them gain Heaven the ultimate good? Do our laws assist in attaining that end?
