You can probably say the REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS MORE CATHOLIC VALUES

but you can NEVER SAY

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS REPUBLICAN
I don’t know, if you look at what the church supports and teaches, it can definitely be classified as conservative, not Republican but conservative for sure.

I have been tired of reading people commenting that the Pope is not CONSERVATIVE enough or the pope is LIBERAL !!!

Stop categorizing the Catholic Church as the Republican Party or Democrat

The Church stands alone.

The Church is pro-life.

The Church is against contraception

THe Church believes in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman

THe Church says Thou shall not kill…

THe Church believes and supports in positive modern developments such as ADULT stem cells.

The Church believes in treating all people with dignity and respect and that includes illegal immigrants.

The Church ADVISES us to vote for politicians who have SINCERE CATHOLIC VALUES

but the CHURCH is not a political party… Do not confuse the Church as being Republican or Democrat

The CHURCH STANDS ALONE !!!
👍:tiphat::highprayer::amen: :blessyou:

Conservative, neo cons, republicans call it the name you wabt but it does not equal to the Catholic church

The church stands alone and is independent from any political body in whatever country there is in this. World

Those are different things, if anything the church is cafeteria conservative, picking and choosing what they follow. It has some unique view points for sure, but abortion, gay marriage, etc… are conservative viewpoints, since the church doesn’t really dabble in economics social issues are all we have to go on, therefore the church is conservative.

This is a very interesting tread! I, for one, appreciate the thoughtful (name removed by moderator)ut.

So for you the church is picking on the values of the republican party.

For you the church is basing their belief on the republican party

How old is the republicam party?

For your info. The Church is more than 2000 years old. It has existed even before the US was discovered

The church doesn’t predate political association. I said nothing of the republican party

You youself are defining the Church to have conservative viewpoints.

It is the other way around

Conservatives and republicans tend to have catholic stance such as those on abortion.

The church is neither conservative nor liberal. It has been firm on its teachings for 2000 years regardless whether the republicans aka conservatives or the democrats aka liberals change their stance on the matter

The reason why the Catholic faith of Amercans has gone downhill is largely due to the fact that they are LOYAL to a certain political party and they categorize the Catholic Church as a PoLitical party

Conservatism and liberalism aren’t political parties they are ideologies which have been around longer than the church.

According to you? According to your history books written by people with political agendas?

There is no republican party or democrat party in otherparts of the word but there sure is a Catholic church.

2000 yrs ago those parties never existed.

I find it tiring to talk to people who are close in growing in their faith and really dig into Church teachings just because they categorize the Church as the republican party

So m not gonna waste my time anymore.

If you really are CATHOLIC as you say, you should know our lives here on this world are temporary so better find out the TRUE MEANING of life. Study the teachings of the faith

Goodbye

You’re the type of person who assumes the public school system is indoctrinating the youth, aren’t you? Close mindedness isn’t something to be proud of, you should remember that.

Did I say anything about the public school system? Is that on this thread?

Close minded? Me ?

The whole part about me reading history books with political agendas kinda painted a bad image.

Maybe you should open a new thread regarding public school sytems and how other CAF members view it. That would be interesting

Giving labels such as “liberal” or “conservative” to our Church is not only irrelevant but also borderline disrespectful. Our divinely founded Church is the only authority in the world to listen to reguarding all things and that’s all that really matters.

Conservatism and liberalism aren’t political parties they are ideologies which have been around longer than the church.
Are you serious?

Conservatism was largely posited by thinkers like Edmund Burke, etc.
Liberalism is so new, that “Classical Liberalism” is an entirely different set of beliefs from the liberalism that we know today. Of course, that is an historical term… people during those times would have simply called it liberalism as well, yet it was “Classical Liberalism”

In the early days of the Church there wasn’t even much political thought. The world was run by empires, monarchies, and smaller states. Most of “politics” was simply tribalism and ethnic conflict.

The Catholic Church is the oldest extent institution in the world. You can look that up. Many secular scholars have agreed with this claim.

The Church doesn’t have any teachings on economic issues? :doh2:

Read the Papal Encyclical Rerum Novarum, and get back to me. Also, many further Papal Encyclicals have expounded upon the economic teachings originally set forth in Rerum Novarum.

Further: The Catholic Church is against the death penalty,
for amnesty of illegal immigrants,
against the proliferation of nuclear weapons,
against unjust wars such as Iraq and Syria, etc.
Recently some Catholic prelates have spoken on a need for higher minimum wages.

You cannot put the Catholic Church in a box of small little ideologies like liberalism and conservatism. The Catholic Church has a much richer intellectual and theological tradition… than pretty much anything else. Again, its the oldest extent institution in the world.

What? No. The Church does not pay any attention to what some political party is thinking when she articulates moral law. The Church is required to consider moral conundrums from scratch.

I would say it is more like this: there was a time, in my lifetime, in fact, in which the Democratic and Republican parties in this country could be seen as defending different virtues. In our times, though, it seems more and more as if the political parties defend different vices. Voters don’t seem to want to be challenged to live virtuous lives. They want the government to protect their “freedom” to violate those parts of long-standing moral law that they would like to pretend don’t exist. So much for “ask not what your country can do for you”!

I have said this to many older Catholics, Catholics who were once proud of at least some of the things their political party was trying to accomplish, and they agree. It is very difficult to get anywhere in politics without being the defender of some improper license, as if that license were a God-given right. Many of the statesmen of the past that I’d like to see in office again could not get elected again. More and more, political promises in the defense of virtue are mere lip service. Those are the promises that are discarded first, the ones most honored with empty show that accomplishes little. This is not everyone in politics, but the higher you go, the worse this problem seems to get. This would indicate that money does not want to pay for protecting virtue, IMHO.

IOW, it is not that the Church is not liberal enough or conservative enough. It is that politics has been pushed more into the service of the selfish wants of the ego than the demands of virtue. This puts the Church into the role of an Old Testament prophet to both parties, the loud voice of truth that listeners would like to shut up, to throw into a muddy cistern. Yet they have to make a show of respect to the Pope, or they are exposed for what they are. This is why we have these politicians taking their patronizing tone with religious voices who try to correct their errors–and that tone is heard from all sides in this country, let’s face it.

But the church does not predate political ideology, so it can be classified according to an ideology. Its not the larger than life organization, you really want it to be.
