Annunciata:
You only have 5…try 20 7th graders!😃 mostly boys the last year I taught…I find boys easier than girls at this age. As I told Path in a previous post that the year should be pretty much downhill from now on. The kids aren’t really interested in religion…most are there because they have to be. I taught Confirmation age 14-16yrs. for 25 yrs., 1st grade for 2 and 7th for 3…I really loved the kids…I basically had “problems” w/ the new DRE…so I retired.
Cheer up! Things will get better. Annunciata:D
Sorry for the confusion–the class totals around 20–it’s the 5 boys who turn it into (as someone earlier and aptly described) “feeding time at the monkey cage.” 🙂

parents don’t like it, catechists love it, Father agrees, for junior high we split up the boys and girls, this has solved 90 % of discipline problems, which seem to stem from 2-3 7th grade boys and 2-3 8th grade girls, the girls are the worst by far.

this is the first year in the 3 I have been there that we have had teachers for all 4 classes. prior to this I had them all in one big room, nobody could stand if for more than 2 months. I called parents and said they all have to volunteer to babysit for 2 sessions or the program would close, just so I have another adult present, as per regulations. big mistake, videos, except in 5 minute clips to start discussion. big success - have all manner of art supplies, watch an 8 minute video on Jesus, create your image of Jesus. biggest success-planning activities to help the parish, like collecting toiletries and making up bags of items for homeless people, planning las posadas, preparing for elementary Advent retreat etc.
