Thank you so very much. I was having a bit of difficulty locating a paragraph which would back me up. I’ll be bringing this up to the teachers tonight, as well as paragraphs 2271-2272 to let them know that the Church DOES teach against abortion (they said it was just a suggestion). :mad:
I know, I’m over on the other thread too where we are discussing this aspect of the abysmal quality of catechesis you are receiving.

Wow.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH!!! MY RCIA TEACHERS TOLD US JUST THIS LAST SUNDAY THAT WE ARE COMPLETELY ALLOWED TO GO TO CONFESSION IF WE WANT TO, BUT SIMPLY DON’T HAVE TO BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO BE BAPTIZED!!!

:mad::mad::mad:
Don’t be angry. Many (most?) RCIA groups include both catechumens seeking baptism and candidates who are already baptized. The candidates go to confession prior to their reception into the Church. Perhaps the instructor wasn’t clear enough about this difference or perhaps you weren’t aware that the remarks were directed to other people and not to yourself.

I think there was another thread where this poster wrote about informing the RCIA teacher (and I use that word loosely) that he, as a catechumen, did not need to be baptized, and the teacher (somewhat) resisted this. I think I’m remembering this correctly. This is a very basic teaching that any RCIA teacher should know.

In any event, this is not the only frighteningly misinformed information that has been disseminated by the instructor…we have been encouraging the poster to talk to his priest (which he has) and/or the Bishop.

Huh?

I am very glad to have found this thread here tonight. I’m a Candidate that will be received this Easter Vigil. Just this evening at my RCIA class, my instructor told us that our priest decided not to do the Rite of Reconciliation for candidates prior to Confirmation and Eucharist Holy Saturday. :eek: Having learned so much about the Catholic faith in the last few months, reading my Bible and the CCC, I learned that I am not to receive Eucharist without having confessed my 43 year’s worth of sins. Our Catechumens are covered since they will be Baptized that night, but I feel that it would be a grave sin for me to have First Communion without being confessed. This has caused much consternation and heartache for me, and I don’t know where to turn. Can I go to another parish to receive my Rite of Reconciliation if our priest will not do so? Please help! Thank you in advance for your replies.

They aren’t going to have the candidates confess at all? There doesn’t have to be a formal rite or ceremony, but the candidates do need to confess. Are they instructing you to just go on your own when you can?

I asked my instructor that tonight, and she said we couldn’t because we were not confirmed Catholics yet. Can I go to confession and receive absolution if I’m not Confirmed?

One does not need to be Confirmed to confess. In most parishes, children confess, receive first Communion, and are Confirmed later. You must be in a state of grace when you receive Communion, so if you are already baptized, you need to confess.

Speak to the pastor about this. This is wrong

Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I will speak to him about going to Confession before Easter Vigil. It seems to me I should be able to do this, and like I said, it was seriously disturbing to me that he/they were acting like it’s no big deal. It’s a VERY big deal to me, and I won’t take Communion, my First or otherwise, unless I’ve been to confession.

you’re welcome let us know what happens. This is disturbing.

My instructor told me today that she looked up Canon Law and found two pages that support my concern. She is going to talk to our Priest and let me know when I can see him. It’s my understanding that he’s a bit unorthodox… If he still won’t take care of this prior to Holy Saturday, I will meet with another Priest for Reconciliation, receive my Sacraments in April, and find another parish to attend regularly afterward. Thank you for your support!

You’re welcome, and if he still insists that the candidates don’t need to confess before receiving sacraments, inform the Bishop.

I’m happy to report that our Priest will be seeing us for Reconciliation this coming Sunday! Thank you again… I am SO relieved!!!
