Just an observation, I’m not going anywhere with this.
I tend to find big places, like the Vatican, huge Cathedrals, massive parish churches etc, not very ‘‘spiritual’’ places to pray, but I’m always in a sense of ‘‘awe’’ in such buildings.
BUT - there’s a little monastery I go to every now and then, tiny church, very plain and simple, almost bare walls, and the Blessed Sacrament exposed 24/7. There’s always one monk in prayer before the Sacrament. There’s a ‘‘presence’’ there - something incredibly powerful, and calm, and soothing that draws you into a very deep prayer. And there’s always total silence. It’s an incredible place.

Does anyone else ever feel like this, and has anyone tried to create a quiet prayerful place in their homes. How did you go about it, specially if you have a couple of children running about most of the waking hours?

I understand what you mean, although for me, there’s a time for everything. Somedays I love being in my parish church with its vaulted, Gothic ceilings and the lingering smell of incense and wax. Everytime I walk in, I always think “I’m home.” But there are times that I’d love to find a small chapel closer to my home that I could pray in. My conversion actually began in a Chapel to Our Lady in Florida. There is a small parish church about 10 minutes from me (as opposed to the 30 minutes I drive to my own parish church), but the parish itself has suffered from years and years of doctrinal and liturgical abuse (as well as horrible decor). The building itself though would be perfect for renovation.
