New York City’s first Roman Catholic cathedral, a landmark Gothic Revival church built in downtown Manhattan two centuries ago, when sailing ships crowded the harbor and DeWitt Clinton was mayor, was elevated to the status of a basilica on Sunday, honoring a rich history of succor to waves of immigrants.

Are their pews always turned toward the center aisle? Beautiful architecture & glass windows!

Hey! I’ll be heading up there next weekend, so will be “home for Christmas” in Brooklyn, and I’ll make a point of visiting the cathedral under its new status. 👍
 
I was actually there during the ceremony… by total accident. 😃

Would anyone else happen to know if EWTN’s (and the Archdiocese of Chicago’s) Fr. Barron was there among the priests celebrating? I could have sworn I saw him, or at least some Anglo-Irish look-alike. :confused:
