LONDON, April 19 /PRNewswire/ – In the wake of the recent death of his holiness Pope John Paul II, Catholics throughout the world are stunned and outraged at the news that a consecrated Host from a 1998 Papal Mass in Rome was put up for auction on eBay and subsequently withdrawn. To date, thousands of Catholics around the world have made their protest known to the company.

The Sacred Host was posted for sale on Saturday, April 9, with a minimum bid of $100.00 and appeared to be sold for $2,000. It was later withdrawn by the seller and he did not conclude any sale. The seller was a non-Catholic who reportedly lives in Sloan, Iowa, United States of America.

The seller of the Host wrote on EBAY, “I … DO NOT BELIEVE I’M GOING TO HELL FOR SELLING THIS COLLECTIBLE.”

The seller then stated he obtained the Host by twice going for Communion during a Papal Mass at the Vatican. “I ate my own wafer,” he said, “then I went back and got another one to save and he gave me another one, but I did get a very dirty look.”

John Gunn - C.A.G’s National Coordinator commented - “Catholics since the beginning of Christianity have always believed that the Eucharist is actually the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Many miracles around the world have actually given credence to this belief such as the 8th Century miracle at Lanciano in Italy, where the Sacred Host actually turned into human flesh and is visible to this day. This has been scientifically verified. We are grievously offended.”

C.A.G calls on all Christians to make their protests known to EBAY. They should stop using their services until the company fully and publicly apologises and promises never to auction any Sacred Eucharist again. EBAY, like any decent company, should always act in a responsible and inoffensive manner.

C.A.G - is an independent Catholic organisation. It has been established to defend Catholic Truth nationally in the United Kingdom through action both inside and outside of the Church. Membership is open to all mainstream orthodox Catholics who are fully obedient to the teaching Magisterium with the Pope at its head and ALL Bishops obedient to the Pope.

Most recently it has issued a UK Voters Guide for Catholics and has also supported online tributes to the late Pope and promoted Catholic boycotts of CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) for its controversial Hiv/Aids - ABC (Abstain, Be Faithful, Use a Condom) policy and also Comic Relief for its funding of Pro-Abortion organisations.
