They loss their inheritance
So you tie money to faith. Wow. You’re a real peach! When Fire Insurance doesn’t work, resort to Spiritual Blackmail. Where is that parenting advice in Scripture?

I think this discussion with cococandy is a perfect illustration of why a relationship with a Baptist is not a good idea for any Orthodox or Catholic.

Many if not most Baptists have an extremely low regard for us. And most of them would not even consider us as Christians since we don’t believe in “getting saved”. Baptism they hold in low regard as not a part of salvation or cleansing from sins. It is only a symbol done after ones sins are already forgiven by “getting saved”.

And at the same time they are so particular about baptism. Even though without spiritual significance it must be done at a certain age using a certain amount of water or to Baptists it does not even count.

It is all so confusing to me!

I wasn’t talking about an inheritance of money in this life, I was talking about their inheritance in heaven

Not sure I would agree that **most Baptists have an extremely low regard ** for Catholic or Orthodox Christians. I have known Baptists who participate in retreats with Catholics and once knew a Baptist who lived in a Lutheran religious community, took holy Communion every day and prayed all the daily hours. He would also go the chapel by myself with a tambourine and sing praises to God.

But you are from New York City (get a rope). I assure you that Southern Baptists and Independent Fundamentalist Baptists in the South do not consider us Christians because we don’t “get saved” without baptism. It is common for them to say that someone who was Catholic “became Christian”.

You are likely used to members of the American Baptist churches who are main line Protestants and are very different from the
Southern and independent fundamental Baptist churches.

Where I Iive in Texas American Baptist churches do not even exist. They are considered ‘librul’ yankee churches.

Just an addendum. Get a rope is from a hot sauce commercial and is not an insult. Likewise I don’t consider “liberal” an insult either. Or Yankee. 😉

Please elaborate.
BTW, you’re doing a great job of being a great bad example.

👍😛 Every post reminds me more and more why I’m so glad to no longer be Baptist.
He’s a circ of an old banned member. I recognize the writing style and general profile. Looks like he’s banned again.
Dude needs a hobby.

…and that statement of authority is found…where in Scripture?
What is your authority for interpreting scripture? If you say the Catholic Church, he may ask “how do you know the Catholic Church has the authority to do that?” If you start quoting scripture to prove that the Church authorizes you to quote scripture, the circle is complete 🙂

With fundamentalists the answer is usually “the Scripture interprets itself” or “The Holy Spirit”. Mainline Protestants would answer in terms of the authority within their denomination. THAT is something the fundamentalist reject along with the Catholic Magesteriam because they believe “soul liberty” gives them the right to self-interpret.
The buck has to stop somewhere. I have never, I repeat NEVER seen a fundamentalist answer that question. They drop into circular reasoning and denial every time.

Well, I am certainly not going to defend Sola Scriptura, which I think is an irrational and self-contradictory doctrine. When it comes to authority to interpret. It depends who you give it to. You decide if you will give authority to a priest, bishop, church or pope. If nobody bothers to listen to what a “person of authority” says, she has zero authority.
