This answer reads as if written by a philosopher so I appropriately posted this in this forum. How does someone explain these complex issues in more simplistic terms?

Philosophically speaking…😉

In short, things that popes generally say are meant as guides for us. They are not infallible, and can be wrong. So like any human, we can disagree with each other. There are, however, times that the pope speaks infallibly. Meaning what he says is stone.

The pope has two voices – human and prophetic. His human voice is no different than yours or mine, that is it can vocalize an error since the source is his fallible intellect. However, the pope’s prophetic voice is not like yours or mine. All pope’s have as the source of their prophetic voice the Holy Spirit who is truth itself and throughout eternity does not change. Our prophetic voice is Spirit driven only when we speak the truth.

Peace,
O’Malley
