CA Forums Shutting Down Patrons
A message from the President of Catholic Answers Dear Members and Patrons of the Catholic Answers Forums, On Thursday December 31 at 5pm PT, Catholic Answers will close the Catholic Answers Forums (CAF). I have made the decision to close the CAF after lengthy consultation with the Catholic Answers executive committee and board of trustees. Because Catholic Answers has limited resources, we are always evaluating our programs to determine if they provide a good return on investment. I understan…

but why tho I find these forums so helpful

The post I linked earlier is their letter explaining their reasoning. I’m sorry that they’re closing on you both, but I have no power over that decision. There has been a list of forums made that people are moving to that you may find helpful with your faith journey.

Working list of alternative Catholic forums and similar media Evangelization
I would like to begin keeping a list of alternative Catholic forums to replace this one due to the impending shutdown of CAF on December 31, 2020. There are no forums that are near substitutes for CAF in terms of the size or volume of posts. This is actually a good thing IMHO. Thus, what follows is a list of smaller forums for your consideration. Take some time to consider supporting one or more of them. Please ensure that additions to this list are in communion with the Holy See. There are m…

I think the just gave up on them. Pity they couldn’t have sold them or spun them off under a different name. Going to be a big loss for anyone looking to talk to other Catholics or thinking about crossing the Tiber.

Anyone is free to set up, maintain, moderate, and adsorb the cost if they so desire.

but why tho
The “why” was in the linked post.
these help me with a lot of answers
And there are many other sources of good answers. even better answers than were sometimes given on here.
Pity they couldn’t have sold them
Who would buy it? Do you have enough money coming in month after month to support this operation? Do you even know how much it costs to operate? And this is far from the only place for Catholics to talk to each other.

Well actually it really is. Some sites are half dead, but is the only one I’ve come across with such a long and active history, there is no other site that comes close. As to costs, they really didn’t make much effort (in the past year I’m on it) to raise money, I’m sure many people here would subscribe etc. But it’s done now.

They basically let the ads run amok and attempted mightily to get Patrons (to the point of making the site essentially unusable without either subscribing or turning off ad blockers), with little effect. Not enough people opted to support the site and ad revenue was nowhere near sufficient. And since the parent organization runs primarily on donations and has a hard enough time supporting the core mission, this simply had to go. I liked the site as well, and if I were in a financial position to underwrite its operation I would, but I am not. But again, there are several other sites with varying degrees of “suitability” to choose from, you just have to try out some and see which one works best for you. There was another linked post (or thread?) above that had details on several options.
