Here’s their website:

Here’s the address:

Totus Bookstore

2nd Floor Red Ribbon Building
Northeast Greenhills
San Juan City, Philippines
Telephone number: (63 2) 723 4326
email address: info@defensoresfidei.com

As you can see in the picture they are conducting Apologetics classes. Filipino Author and Apologist Ed De Vera is the one conducting apologetics lecture together with Atty. Marwil Llasos, Carlos Antonio Palad, Fr. Abe Arganiosa and others.

Totus Bookstore is the great place where you can find famous Catholic books like those written by Scott Hahn, Karl Keating, Pat Madrid etc.

Mr. De Vera wrote 2 apologetics book: THE CATHOLIC SOUL & THE MYSTERY OF SALVATION.

Here’s the team:

How about St. Peter’s Men; Who are they??

One member of St. Peter’s men was lost in a public debate against Elisieo Soriano (Founder of ADD)…

From what I know, Atty. Marwil is helping St. Peter’s Men by conducting apologetics seminars there. The guy from St. Peter’s Men might a a good theologian but not necessarily an apologist. The diffference between a theologian and an apologist is the same as a trial lawyer and a corporate lawyer who is not engage in litigation. Theologians might know the answer, however, THE MANNER OF PRESENTING THE EVIDENCE OR ARGUMENT FOR THE ANSWER is quite different. They might know how to EXPLAIN the answer BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT OF DEFENDING OR ARGUING FOR IT.

I’d like to compare these theologians to what the famous trial lawyer Gerry Spence once said about the so-called “EXPERTS” who taught at “WELL-KNOWN” Law Schools and gave their “EXPERT” opinions in the O.J. Simpson trial. “THEY ARE LIKE DOCTORS WHO TEACH SURGERY BUT NOT ONCE IN THEIR LIFE DID THEY PERFORM A SURGERY.”

That’s why I doubt if our priests, Bishops, Cardinals, whose intellectual and biblical muscles are seldom practice, could stand a chance in an ORAL DEBATE against their contemporaries in the Protestant circle except for our Pope, of course, whose sharp skill and wisdom in argumentation and debate grow better with time and never wear off. Catholic Apologists like Scott Hahn and others are still using his books as reference for their works.

If our Pope could allocate a day in his very busy schedule to teach Catechism, how come our Bishops could not? Are they busier than the Pope?

Pinoy Katoliko,
You’re absolutely right. Not all apostles were apologists, but all of them were theologians. Apologetics is a theological science which has for its purpose the explanation and defense of the True Christian religion. Theologians on the other hand use various forms of analysis and argument (philosophical, ethnographic, historical) to help understand, explain, critique, defend or promote any of a myriad of religious topics such as but not limited to Catholic Faith and Morals.
It so happened that CFD’s are more exposed in apologetics which is due and demandable in the case of grassroots catholics to help them explain in a simpliest way the protestant objections that were threatening in their midst. As we all know, more than half percent of total catholic population in our country belongs to the poor and needy who can not come and enroll in a formal education to learn the faith. That is why, the CBCP had convened in 1991 in their Second Plenary Council of the Philippines, and decided to dictate all parish priest in section 222 “…Parish Priests should encourage the establishment of lay catholic faith defenders”. But sad to say, not all priests are sympathetic to this gigantic causa. Nevertheless, we have to pray fervently and not just blowing our minds and skills in defending our Holy Catholic Faith. Let us offer our intentions and prayers for the enlightenment of pastors of souls especially this coming pentecost sunday, that they renew to their vows to follow the cross of Christ in obedience to the will of the Holy Mother Church.
May the venerable mouth of Our Lord in St. John’s gospel “ut omnes unum sint” (That they all may be one) be our guiding light in bringing all the believers to the True Ark of Salvation.
Pro Deo et Ecclesia

Nandito pa rin ako…Wala lang akong masabi na importante sa topic na 'to kaya hanggang tingin-tingin lang ako. 😉

(I’m still here…Just I can’t say anything relevant to the topic here so I’m refraining from posting and just looking at the posts.)

"Ah’, that is why some Catholic priest(majority of them) did not engage in apologetics works and not even supporting apologetics program…
I would like to suggest that if a Catholic person(s) will debating just like Eli Soriano(anti-catholic-satanic man); It would be advisable that He( Catholic Person) have enough knowledge and skills in apologetics works and handling a formal and informal type of debate. It is also advisable that He(Catholic) must know who and what is the technique of His(Catholic) opponent. Just like Eli Soriano(anti Catholic) were using a deceptive tactics!!
I’d like to compare these theologians to what the famous trial lawyer Gerry Spence once said about the so-called “EXPERTS” who taught at “WELL-KNOWN” Law Schools and gave their “EXPERT” opinions in the O.J. Ah ok thank you for the analogous example:thumbsup:

Here is a series of lectures by Bishop Tagle on Dogmatic Theology:

archive.org/search.php?query=Bishop%20Tagle

Bishop Tagle is a member of the Commission for the Doctrine faith here in the Philippines. He studied in the U.S. under Cardinal Avery Dulles. He has a talk show at ABC 5 entitled LIGHT TALK. Do you watch it guys? Anyway, here’s his profile:

cbcponline.net/bishops/bishops/tagle.html

Have you seen the 50 Catechism Series of Fr. Corapi at EWTN? I believe there should be a Filipino version of that talk. In my opinion, Bishop Tagle is the man for the job! The Catechism should be spoken in Tagalog for the benefit of our countrymen.

I’m here…

I just want to ask if there are other ways for CFD to discuss with each other other than yahoo groups…coz I can’t access it always 😦

About BEC, I heard from a member of KSD ( Kahayag sa Diyos ) here in CDeO ( Cagayan de Oro, formerly the acronym was CDO but it was recently changed…very awkward. ) that our own archbishop, Antonio Ledesma was all for it. But it wasn’t implemented here because of personal, social and political “issues” the bishop. So sad. 😦

I do agree that the clergy in the Philippines can become too political…they should focus more on evangelization, poverty, modern culture! That being said, I can certainly sympathize with them coz it is hard to do this things. But it’s no excuse for doing it.

I hope one day I can meet people from CFD, DFF, or Catholic Answers! 👍

Too bad that it translates as “the church throughout all” in most versions and so actually is defined as “universal church” and of course there’s then the problem of the actual Greek words being “Catholic Church”.

Acts 9: 31 in transliteration:

Stephens 1550 Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894 Textus Receptus and Byzantine Majority:

Ai men oun Ekklēsiai Kath’olis tēs Ioudaias kai Galilaias kai Samareias eichon eirēnē oikodomoumenai kai poreuomenai tō phobō tou Kyriou kai tē paraklēsei tou Agiou Pneumatos eplēthunonto.

Alexandrian, Hort and Wescott:

Ē men oun Ekklēsia Kath’olis tēs Ioudaias kai Galilaias kai Samareias eichen eirēnē oikodomoumenē kai poreuomenē tō phobō tou Kyriou kai tē paraklēsei tou Agiou Pneumatos eplēthuneto.

The word Catholic derives from the Greek word, katolikos/katholikos. The general translation of this word into English is “universal”, the Greek term literally expressing the meaning of “taking nothing away from the whole” — or all encompassing, all embracing.
