wow, i never imagined that there are still filipino catholics who would still defend the church that they loved and still love. the catholic church in the phlippines is under a lot of pressure this days from christian denominations. don’t we have a thread yet defending our faith from the attacks of Eliseo
Soriano? he is currently having a good shopping spree for filipino catholics nowadays.
Eliseo Soriano? I don’t think that he attracts people to his sect… With that kind of group its a waste of time to debate over him. I just hope that his follower will see what is in their group…

People joining his group should ask what are their doctrines. It’s better to study our doctrines rather than to argue with them.

Shalom.

I am a Cebuano (yes, a Filipino). I have been living here in the Philippines for all my life. I would like to call myself an amateur apologist. I am frequently visiting two Filipino websites - both of which have an online forum.

[1] genrev.net — describes itself as the craziest, friendliest online community for Catholic students

I have started four topics here in the Opinion forum, and I have seen a large number of those who visit the boards actually viewing (and presumably reading) the contents. Unfortunately, I have encountered a number of un-Catholic views on some issues pervading the opinions expressed. Sometimes, these come from the moderators/administrators themselves.

[2] istorya.net — describes itself as a site based in Cebu City, Philippines and a home for everyone (from Visayas to Mindanao to Luzon to the rest of the world)

In its Political and Current Events forum, there is a topic on religion. For the most part, it is a discussion (more like an attack) on the Catholic religion. The discussion sometimes degenerate into something less civilized.

Though I often find help from other post-ers in the two forums, I realize that we need more and better materials to point these people to. I am therefore grateful that I have a Filipino apologetics website I can point to for the more ā€˜native’ elaboration. You have just given me an idea of how to better reach out to my fellow Cebuanos. It is a hard work but I am ready to work hard. Souls is at stake.

Mane nobiscum, Domine!
Greetings! Maayo imo mga plano, Daghan unta mahimong apologist nga kamao mosulti ug visaya/cebuano.

Bakit kaya walang iisang society or organization lahat ng Filipino Catholic apologist? Can we start an organization kahit sa internet lang? Or a Catholic apologetics site in Filipino setting? Catholic Answers kasi deals most of the time with Fundamentalist in the U.S. while we Filipinos have problems with the Iglesia ni Felix Manalo at Daan ni Elie Soriano. By the way, I’m revising my site and I’m working right now on the claims of Felix Manalo being the Sugo.

Greetings! Good Idea. I can contribute in cebuano dialects, I have only few ideas in Filipino speaking bibles. By the way, i am only part time on this ministry.

**Philippines Has Special Role, Says Benedict XVI
For Task of Evangelization in the East **

MANILA, Philippines, APRIL 6, 2006 (Zenit.org).- In the context of the March 24 consistory, Benedict XVI stressed the role of the Philippines in the evangelization of the East.

This was a ā€œpersonal messageā€ of the Pope’s that new Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, archbishop of Manila, wished to share with his faithful April 1.

His words resounded in the cathedral of Manila, on his return from Rome.

ā€œI must share with you the Holy Father’s personal message,ā€ the 73-year-old Philippine prelate revealed. ā€œHe said that ā€˜the Philippines has a special role in the evangelization of the East.ā€™ā€

The cardinal wondered if the Holy Father ā€œwas thinking of the thousands of Filipinos in various Asian countries living and working as missionaries,ā€ or ā€œdid he have in mind the Christian witnessing that Filipinos even here and abroad could give to our neighbors.ā€

The archbishop of Manila then referred to the words Pope John Paul II spoke during his 1981 pilgrimage to the Far East, echoing those of Paul VI, whose example he followed, traveling to Asia.

The Philippine cardinal mentioned the ā€œchallenge … to make [of] our society true communities of believers, eliminating injustice and inequalities that deny anyone a dignified life.ā€

ā€œAsia is looking at us for light which we have already received in Christ,ā€ he concluded.

watch a local TV station in the philippines and the guest was a filipino missionary priest and being interviewed regarding the Lenten Season and the traditions.

The correspondent ask him if is it really a tradition or just a superstition that eating of meat during friday of lent is not allowed. He replied that it is a traditon of the church. a question is asked if it is ok for us to eat meat or not. He said well’ it has been a tradition before but today it is all right to eat meat on fridays of lent.

My ear rung with so much heat hearing this. A priest is saying and informing people on a national TV that it is ok now to eat meat on fridays of lent.

Asked about his view on the da vinci code on mariage of Jesus to magdalene; he said i just hope so (that jesus was married) so that they can prove that Jesus was truly a man.

What is happening here?

It’s dangerous…

Hi, you have a nice username, apologist should follow his love of our faith. Eli Soriano, How i wish i could see him personally. I have no clear idea what eli stands, not only catholics he atacks but also other groups.
i personally think he inherited this strategy from the INC from where he sprouted from. a strategy which was accurately described by Mr. Karl Keating.

ā€œThe Iglesia tries to convince people of its doctrines not by proving they are right, but by attempting to prove the Catholic Church’s teachings are wrong.ā€

oh well…

My wife’s mother told me that in her days, every parish used to have a ā€œdefender of the faithā€ group. She lived in the Visayas. Was that the way it was for churches all over the Philippines? I think that is simply awesome.

I also wanted to ask (since it was mentioned in another forum). What is the relationship between Catholics and Orthodox in the Philippines?

Blessings,
Marduk

There’s not too much Orthodox presence here in the Philippines. The Orthodox Church has only one church here in Metro Manila, which is near our place. The other church I think is in Laguna, which is south of Metro Manila. Overall I think there are only 4 or 5 Orthodox churches nationwide.

During the 70’s in our parish in Sampaloc, Manila, there also exists a group of defenders known as the DCF (Defenders of the Catholic Faith) which has a nationwide membership. However, in the spirit of ecumenism (in the truest sense) the parish priest at that time tried to tone down (if not altogether discouraged) their activities since they were viewed as very vocal and were deemed offensive to non-caths, especially the INC. How I wish they would come back and re-engage.

yes…back again!

maayong gabi-i sa tanang mga igsoon nako ni Kristo…

good evening to all my brothers and sisters in Christ…

mga brod, INC’s, I think were freemasons…

look at their logo…a compass and an inverted triangle…these are symbols of freemasonry right? i think Manalo is a mason…
