Dear po18guy,

As someone who self-identifies as traditional but not Traditionalist, I have to admit the justice of your argument. Perhaps I am just an old-fashioned individual who believes that one should defer or avoid such topics when speaking of the dead. 🙂

I was also raised in ancient Catholic traditions which have been practiced for centuries. I appreciate that when a person dies we should not speak negative and hold our tongue. There have been times when people cannot help but to say something when a person who was not the greatest passed away. The follow up in the tradition of my family when a person point to a fault of a deceased has been - something like - may my words not hold weight on his/her soul. To say, I understand where you are coming from.

However, Deacon Jeff, did what his duty calls him to do and not having done so would actually not have been a responsible thing at all. Well, we can pray for the man’s soul but, we need to make clear that we are not promoting his misguidance. It’s more important to be clear about the faith than to play nice

What do you mean “by someone claiming to be a deacon of the church”?

The Deacon has spoken quite correctly to warn against the errors of this man as well as the tragedy surrounding the priest with whom the man associated himself…Father Gruner and his lack of total submission to his own Bishop first, to the Bishop of Fatima second, and, finally, to the Holy See itself.

I was horrified by what they each published. Truly deplorable.
 
His “rag” is not schismatic and neither was Vennari.

I love the pope and the Church, as well. No one needs to be a deacon to love and defend them. But it is permissible for Catholics to criticize both. Seems like those who argue that such criticism is unacceptable are the ones being overly sensitive.
 
Ugh. Responding within a poster’s comments makes it almost impossible to reply. 😦 Here goes.

Please tell me you’re not really using Novus Ordo Watch as a legitimate source. :eek: Now **they **are schismatic. Vennari supported the SSPX, as did his publication. The SSPX is not schismatic.

It seems the difference is largely in the eye of the beholder.

Then it probably wasn’t the wisest decision to openly criticize him on a thread asking for prayer intentions for the repose of his soul.

I trust you know that I wasn’t the poster who said you “claim to be a deacon.” I trust further that you understand the difference between “direct and personal attack” and charitable correction.

I wasn’t really a fan of Vennari’s work. I’m not SSPX or even someone who identifies as a traditional Catholic. But “schismatic” has a specific meaning and it didn’t apply to his publication.
