Ouija boards are nothing more than a gimmick. They only “work” because people are gullible.

Incorrect. Magic and the Occult are real. Ouija Boards should be avoided.

Yep, You see I have a belief that there is a God. I also have a belief there is a devil. I also believe there is good and evil in this world. I believe that I control my destiny. If you want to believe that an inanimate object can control you, then fine. I believe differently.

I don’t think anybody here has suggested a ouija board can ‘control you’. It is indeed an inanimate object. But using one is an expression of intent. It says, ‘by this, I invite spirits in’.

Much of our faith is exercised with reference to sacramentals. These are often inanimate objects that help us frame our thoughts towards the sacraments, and towards God. We don’t want things to take us in the other direction…

As @Columba_Tom said , you appear to be the only one on the thread saying that a piece of cardboard can control someone. That’s difficult to understand. Perhaps an explanation on your behalf of how the piece of cardboard controls someone would be helpful.

You also claim to “have a belief that there is a God” and to “have a belief that there is a devil.”
I’m wondering if that’s where the true difference lies - between the God and the devil the Catholic faith teaches exist, and the God and the devil whom you believe exist.

Essentially, the gist (my own limited opinion) is more about our use of created things - (man modified and otherwise) , and about the realm of the spirit .

To borrow your popular phrase, I could agree that in and of itself, a piece of cardboard doesn’t control anybody. That does make it similar to the drugs and the wine in that they require some initial human interaction before they work their effects.
Though alcohol in moderation would appear to be okay. . . unless you think Jesus was a bad “decision maker.”

Where the drugs and alcohol become very similar to the (ouija board) piece of cardboard , is when they are misused. That’s when any or all of them have the potential to open the door to demonic activity - be it temptation, or even something more tangible to the human senses.

Fr. John Hardon, S.J. says :
“. . . the devil not only seduces or tempts people to sin. The devil is allowed by God to do evil, to harm people.”
We’re better off not sending him any written invitations.

Sacred Scripture tells us in the Gospel - both according to Mark and to Luke, that the demons caused 2,000 pigs to run over a cliff and drown themselves in the sea.

Given this concrete example of their power to manipulate 2,000 pigs , I would think that manipulating a “piece of cardboard” would be a “piece of cake.”

I have never, ever heard anything good about Ouija boards. I have heard a great deal of freaky things about them. Any Coast to Coast AM listeners know what I mean.

The key with Ouija boards isn’t necessarily about the object, it’s the intention and the invitation that is the issue. People can make their own boards or do their own divination with whatever objects they want.

Speaking about divination, I hear Tarot cards are just as dangerous.

If Ouija boards can invite in the devil, Monopoly has to be worse. After all it teaches you profit.

Monopoly is only evil if you “get out of jail free.”

😉

On a more serious note, about how one financially very successful believer struggles against amassing profit (It’s a little dated, but totally relevant to post # 35) :

Taking the Gospel to the Rich

Yes, I just brought this up before my confessor last week, & he said it’s something that can put a bullseye on you for spiritual assault. It would also be a reason for the person committing this act to reject, renounce, & rebuke Satan & his demons. So, yes…It is not to be trifled with.

I have seen too many weird stuff when I was into the occult to deny the possibility of harm ouija boards can cause to people…
