I live in an area that does not have Catholic radio so I listen to the contemporary Christian station. I enjoy listening to the music, but this Lent I have been hungry for more. I discovered Marie Bellet at a conference I attended several years ago. I have some tapes from Fr. Stan, and one by John Michael Talbot.

Can anyone steer me towards more good Catholic music? What I’m looking for right now is something more hymn-like than praise and worship-like, if that makes any sense.

Try this link and click on ‘Catholic Praisecast’ or ‘Catholic Rockers’ for some podcasts of good Catholic music.

Don’t be fooled by the ‘Catholic Rockers’ name, a lot of it is more your style of music I think - not too heavy.

Some good stuff out there :yup:

There is colid morally Catholic stuff depending on the genre you like. There is even (I’m sure much to the supprise of many people) genuinely Catholic rap. I’m like a music fanatic but I only listen to the Christian stuff and most of it Catholic so here’s some top artist on my list.

Bob Rice (He lead a cool band for a while called Backyard Galaxy)
Righteous B a.k.a. Bob Lesnefsky (he’s the rapper and is influential in Franciscan University’s youth outreach program(like Bob Rice), and is working on a piolet program to put Catholic youth ministers in the inner city) oh, and he did a cd with Fr. Stan Fortuna
Ben Walther
Chrispen (Catholic Funk)
Kelly Pease
Sarah Bauer
Chris Padgett
Joe Zelek
Friday Mourning
II X (little hip hop flavor, I’ve only heard Tutus Tous Maria by him though so…)

I second Katie Rose!

Also, check out Matt Maher! 🙂 He is phenomenal!

I’ve heard of him through a friend of mine…I hear he’s pretty good…

Catholic Music Network is a great place to buy CDs by Catholic artists. iTunes also has a good selection of Catholic artists.

I recently downloaded 2 CDs by Angelina, and ordered her DVD.

(1) Anyone else like The Violet Burning? (2) Would you count their songs as Catholic?
