My daughter attends a Catholic high school half the day and then an accelerated math and science center the other half.
I thought we could avoid this question for a couple more years, but the math and science center is having them as freshmen start researching colleges and preparing for the application process. Most of the students at this math and science center attend very competitive schools, many in the Ivy League.
So yesterday my daughter said she was interested in Yale. I had been thinking I wanted her to go to a Catholic college, but I don’t want to deny her the possibilities for her future that she might obtain by attending an Ivy League school. None of these advantages would be worth the loss of her soul, of course.
So my question is: Is it possible and/or probable that a young adult could attend a school like Yale and remain a faithful Catholic? Are the Catholic campus organizations strong enough to help the students remain on the right path?
A related question if you are familar with the Newman Guide: Are any of the schools in the Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College also competitive academically? Or does one have to make a choice of one or the other? I know the Newman Society does not recommend Notre Dame, which seems like the most likely compromise.
Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
