I am a Catholic who attends Saturday Vigil Mass at the local Catholic parish. I also attend the local Baptist Church every Sunday morning. In May 2017 I was Baptized via immersion at that Baptist Church as a public profession of faith that I had embraced Jesus as my Lord and Savior and started trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. In September 2017 I took a 10 week membership preparation class from the Pastor of that Baptist Church. In January 2018 I went before the congregation at that Baptist Church to give my testimony on how I received salvation. I was then voted in as a member of that Baptist Church by the congregation and the Elders. I am an usher at that Baptist Church.

To clarify:
You’re saying you were already a baptized Catholic, then you got baptized at the Baptist church and are currently a member there, but you are also a Catholic?

So many issues here –

First one being, you were presumably baptized as a child? In which case, whatever happened in May 2017 was not actually a baptism. Baptism is a one-time event, leaving an indelible mark on the soul.

That’s my biggest gripe with Baptist churches. They only count baptism if you’ve been dunked, even if you’ve been baptized as a child. Totally ignores the Nicene Creed.

Is there a question or something you want us to discuss here or are you just letting us know you’re a Baptist?

I’m not usually one to defend the Baptists, but I don’t think this is quite fair. They would say that they do believe in one baptism, but that it’s not a real baptism unless it’s a dunking.

I started to attend the local Baptist Church on Sunday mornings because of a lady friend from that Baptist Church. I came to like the Baptist service so I decided to continue attending that Baptist Church every Sunday morning while continuing to attend Saturday Vigil Mass at the local Catholic parish.

So, I don’t mean to be rude here, but once again, why are you telling us this?

Did you have a question about the Catholic Faith or about going to two different churches? Or were you looking for other people who attended two churches so you could share your experience with them? Or did you just want to know what we thought of a Catholic who decided to apparently be a part-time Baptist as well?

You can’t be a practicing Catholic and a
practicing Baptist at the same time…
It sounds like you chose to join the Baptist faith and have you told the pastor at the Baptist church you are still attending Mass? Have you notified your
priest you have joined the Baptist church?
Maybe instead of posting here, you should speak with them first so they know
what you are doing and they can help you
in this matter.

It is a very good thing that you have “embraced Jesus as my Lord and Savior and started trusting in Jesus alone for salvation.” That is, after all, the whole point of Catholicism.

If you have good reason to do so, you, as a Catholic, may attend a non-Catholic Church as a guest, as long as you are not endangering your Catholic faith. However, unless I am mistaken, Catholics are not supposed to be rebaptized or participate in other ordinances or sacraments of non-Catholic Churches or become members of non-Catholic Churches or take on leadership positions at non-Catholic Churches.

If you haven’t done so already, I think you really need to talk to your priest about your current membership in the non-Catholic Church.

You need to speak with a Priest. Catholic Church and Baptist churches do not agree doctrinally on a ton of stuff. Going to Baptist Church which only make you question your beliefs.

As for being Baptised in Baptist Church… why? Do you question your Catholic Baptism? Do you question the sacramental nature of your Baptism? You need to speak with a Priest asap

This is the same guy who posted the same thing on a Baptist forum. He does not believe in the Catholic teaching on the Holy Eucharist yet still takes communion at a Catholic Mass. He has no respect for our belief’s regarding the Holy Eucharist and therefore no personal integrity whatsoever as he presents himself to receive it in our church.
