Dappled Things online magazine is apparently launching a Cafepress.com store pretty soon and their showing tentative designs for the t-shirts on their site. They look really nice! Up to now, they have one advertising Gandalf and Aragorn as presidential candidates for 2008, one with a play on words with Catholic author Graham Greene, one featuring Flannery O’Connor, one featuring a drawing of Chesterton that appeared on the magazine, and two with words from the poem Pied Beauty by the Jesuit poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. I think they’re really nice t-shirts and I hope they’ll come up with more and set up the store quickly! I’d love to see one featuring Tolkien himself. Maybe I’ll make the suggestion for a design.
It’s nice to see these t-shirts up. Sometimes I want to get clothing that expresses my love for the faith, but I don’t like “preachy” shirts like ones featuring bible passages or stuff like that. These seem more like shirts that Catholics (or at least Catholics who like books) would simply enjoy wearing. Props to them for designing them.
Oh, you can check out the tentative designs here.
