There are some great links in another thread on Catholic fiction put out by Catholic publishers and thanks to those who posted them.

I would like to find more Catholic authors that have books published through secular publishing houses. I’ve done some searches and found William Peter Blatty (The Exorcist), Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange), and found out that Dean Koontz is also one (I learned this watching an interview on EWTN).

I’m also interested in finding more contemporary authors that write allegorical books - much like the Chronicles of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings. It can be in other formats such as horror, suspense, or science fiction. I’d prefer something aimed at a more adult audience but I’ve read some good young adult fiction so I won’t dismiss books that aren’t. I found one sci-fi writer that had a series published in the mid 80s that was described as such but I don’t have it bookmarked. If I find it again I will post it here.

Basically I really like dramatized versions of good versus evil and I’d like to find some stories that put a Catholic spin on it.

Do you know about catholicfiction.net? I’ve just started reviewing books for them, and my first is The Exorcist. (I had searched this forum for people’s thoughts on the book, and that’s how I found this thread!) 🙂

I don’t think you’d be much interested in Mary Higgins Clark’s romantic suspense novels (she is the reigning Queen of Suspense and her next novel, “Daddy’s Gone a-Hunting” is due out next week) but no one does suspense with a Catholic POV like she does.

Aimee and David Thurlo’s “Sister Agatha” series is set in northern NM with an extern nun who solves murders in her community. Again, perhaps not what you’re seeking, but you can’t get more of a Catholic worldview than through the eyes of a nun (even one that rides a Harley with a retired police dog in the sidecar!)

James Patterson has a series of thrillers–the Detective Michael Bennett series (much grittier than the ones listed above) with a Catholic widower police detective with 10 kids and a grandfather who is a monsignor.

And these are definitely secular publishers (respectively, Simon and Schuster, Tor/Forge, and Little, Brown.)

And this July, from Dark Oak Press, my debut mystery novel, “End of the Road”, will be released, also with a Catholic worldview.

Hope this information is of some interest to you.
