One of the local Protestants attended a christening.
He inquired: What is the difference between christening, dedication, and Catholic baptism?
Please explain.

Baptism and Christening are the same thing, but Catholics mostly use the term Baptism.

Dedication is what some Protestant communities do who do not practice infant baptism. They dedicate their babies to the Lord at a church service. The babies are not baptized, and how they do it varies by denomination.

CB Catholic, The local Protestant expressed,
“Thank you for the clarification.”

I always tell people that we Baptize babies but christen ships. However, in the process, both get named, and both get wet!

In the sacrament of Baptism the baby’s name is used and mentioned.
It is the rite of claiming the child for Christ Jesus and his Church that is celebrated. /INDENT]
