I had never heard of this practice before, can someone tell me more about it? Is there a rubric for betrothal ceremonies? Why don’t we do this anymore?

This appears to be a possible “rubric for betrothal” for a ceremony that can be used within the Church. I would suggest you use these resources and go and talk to your pastor or priest about his willingness to do something like this, too.

I can tell you just a little.

The first time I ever saw or heard of anything like that being performed in the USA was at an SSPX chapel about ten years ago. I thought it odd, but chalked it up to the “frenchness” of the SSPX.

Yes, it exists.

My Brother-in-law (priest) performed it at our engagement party.

It should be in the book of blessings.

I secretly want to do this. I say “secretly” because I don’t have a boyfriend let alone a fiance. :rolleyes: 😛

LOL. I thought the choir’s singing was part of the ceremony.

Lormar and Chatter, when you saw it done, was it done on a Sunday? If so, before or after mass?

If not on a Sunday, was it open to everyone or only done with family and friends present?
 
It is something beautiful for those couples that have it done. A friend of mine had it about three years ago at the TLM convent chapel we assist at three years ago. It helps emphasis that they will soon be making a lifelong commitment and that they should ask for God’s grace to prepare properly.
