Catholic Bible Software

I am interested in purchasing a Bible software program for my laptop, and am looking for suggestions. I have looked at Logos and BibleWorks, among others, but would love to buy a program with multiple Catholic Bibles and commentaries. Does anyone have any advice as to a Catholic Bible Software program? Any recommendations as to one Protestant program over the others?

I use bibleworks and it has the Douay Rheims, RSV, and NAB so it has the main Bibles that you guys use. It is a little costly but you get a lot of bang for your buck.

The only issue I have with the earlier version is that you couldn’t take notes on the texts you are working with. The newer version has corrected this problem…or at least so I’ve heard.

I have the Catholic version of Logos . It was put out last year , tho I think it was a commision kind of deal and I seem to recall that after publication one of the huge Catholic sites owns it now … if you contact Logos I bet they will tell you , and there are 800 numbers for it … Its a wonderful program , has the early fathers and lots of good stuff , a Catholic put it together . good luck … Happy study ! hugs Debbie

I seem to remember some free Bible software being available for downloading but can’t remember which site offered it.

I’ve also heard good things about the logos software.

There are versions of the Vulgate and Douay-Rheims available for eSword. The are also some illicit copies of the NAB floating around. Illicit because the NAB is under copyright and was used without permission. I also have many of the popular non-approved translations, such as the KJV. These are very useful in polemics with non-Catholics.

I use ESword. There are DR and RSV as welll as many Protestant versions available.

I’ve come across a simply amazing resource for you. It’s called the “This is the Faith” database. It has a few different Bibles, several hundred writings from the Church Fathers and also from the Doctors of the Church, the old Catholic Encyclopedia, hundreds of papal documents and the documents from all of the major Church Councils. It also has Bible maps, a list of the Popes with information about them and their writings. Significant dates in Church history listed by century, and a lot more. The amazing thing is, that you can not only do bible searches, but you can look up a verse, say Matt 1:25, and get cross-referenced to what the Church Fathers and/or the Doctors of the Church have said about that particular verse. It also has a doctrinal list that enables you to click on a particular doctrine and it will reference Bible verses that pertain to that doctrine and also give you commentary from the various Church Fathers and Doct ors that pertain to that particular doctrine. When I saw everything that it does, it just blew me away. If you’d like to see for yourself what it does and/or obtain a copy of the database, you can go to www.thisisthefaith.com. The cost is $33.00. I think it is well worth the investment. I’ve never seen anything else like it and I highly recommend it.

One could put together their own Catholic Bible program by obtaining Douey Rheims in Html off the web site, St Thomas Catena, Catholic Commentary from a few web sites, since most are not compyrighted and are now free public domain, that is who E-Sword is able to make available for free because most of the Bibles, commentaries etc are freepublic domain meaning they are no longer copyrighted.
