Does anyone know how one can obtain a free bible? I am one who is not able to go to the local Catholic parishes in my area.

Just give a call down to the local church, they have staff that have access to automobiles and should be able to get it out to you.

The bible isn’t an expensive book, a paper and ink version is less than $10.

BTW, “parish” is a geographic subdivision of a diocese- it isn’t the church building or the congregation. “I am currently in Our Lady of the Angels parish” is a true statement even though I’m not posting this from church owned property and I am at home now.

You can also get free apps on your phone or tablet to access the bible. Laudate is a good one. Also one website, usccb.org/ has the bible.

If you are looking for a paper copy I would follow the advise given by Kielbasi.

That is true, although in Louisiana there would be a double meaning 🙂

Still, “going to the parish” meaning it’s offices, as presumably one means when looking for a Bible, would not be incorrect, either.

I’ve always thought our Holy Church needed it’s own Gideon Society 🙂

Along with the USCCB site mentioned earlier, biblegateway.com has the New American Bible Revised Edition and the Catholic version of the New Standard Revised Edition.

Lighthouse Catholic Media has a free app that contains the text of the RSV-CE, 2nd edition. There are both IPad/IPhone and Android versions, even a Kindle Fire version. I have it on my phone.

It also has a guide to the daily Mass readings. With the disclaimer that the actual Mass readings in RCC churches use the New American Bible translation so the words will be a little different.

You can also buy modules that contain Bible commentary by Dr. Scott Hahn and others associated with the Lighthouse, and there are free samples that come with the app. I haven’t bought those, but the free content is extensive.
