Just realize that there are official Canonists who disagree with your opinion.

It is never your or my job to label someone as a heretic. That job is for the Bishops.

There are a hundred things to take into consideration, not the least of which is that politicians do not wield the power to reverse established federal law and that politicians will say anything to get votes.

You might find this article of interest Library : Reply to a Question on Excommunication of Public Officials Who Openly Support Abortion | Catholic Culture

Fr Cole made a clear statement that does narrow it down from “any politician who supports the established law is a heretic” and puts a finer point on it:

So, if I obstinately deny by teaching and preaching, or doubt that abortion is not intrinsically evil, I commit the mortal sin of heresy. All things being equal, I am automatically excommunicated according to the provisions of Can. 1364, § 1, provided that the presumptions of knowledge of the law and penalty (Can. 15, § 2) and imputability (Can. 1321, § 3) are not rebutted in the external forum:

With due regard for can. 194, § 1, n. 2, an apostate from the faith, a heretic or a schismatic incurs automatic excommunication and if a cleric, he can also be punished by the penalties mentioned in can. 1336, § 1, nn. 1, 2, and 3. §2. If long lasting contumacy or the seriousness of scandal warrants it, other penalties can be added including dismissal from the clerical state.

Why are Catholic bishops in America silent

With prominent elected officials who purports to be Catholic and support abortion
I AGREE; there ARE FAR more being silent [one assume for hope ; one supposes for either political GAIN or fear of Reprisals [nearly the same thing IMO]

We live in historic and challangin times

Be Strong and pray very much

Thanks for asking
Patrick

THANKS for the defence BUT is this not playing the Ostrich?

We do have to defend OUR Faith and our Good Bishops; but on a public FORUM there is an absolute need for truth; or noting we share will be taken seriously.

I’m uncomfortable with the question but once asked we need a candid discussion

Many Blessings and THANK God for our Good Bishhops!
Patrick
