Hi. I am interested in having a Catholic blog to make short posts about theological, political/social, philosophical, and other topics, but I do not know how I should do it. Should I just make a normal blog on something like blogspot.com or another generic blog site? Or is there a Catholic blog site? Any help would be much appreciated. God bless. 🙂

Blogger has really come a long way from when it was first offered. There are a number of new features that really help to make a blog look like a professional website. If you do a Google search for “Blogger Templates”, you will find some good sites that offer downloadable templates to really enhance your blog and completely disguise it as a free blog.

If you don’t have much experience with html or scripts etc., blogger seems to be the most user friendly. It’s very easy to add a page element and most of the features are “click and move”.

You can find large background files of Catholic-related images to use as the page background, you can add your own favicon, set up moderation for comments, add page elements such as links, social networking buttons and widgets etc…

I also find blogger to be the most compatible with Facebook and Twitter, so adding things from those sites is often just a matter of clicking a link and it automatically adds the element to your blog. You can even adjust settings so that your blog posts automatically show up on your facebook page as soon as you publish them.

So blogger is my program of choice and the one I recommend to anyone wanting to set up a blog.

Excellent, thanks for the advice. I’ll certainly try it. God bless you. 🙂

I also am trying to start a blog, and I vouch for blogspot.com (or blogger.com … blogspot will redirect to it.) It’s the easiest thing ever! But it still comes out looking snazzy and readable.

On terms of content, one of my favorite Catholic blogs is fountainofelias.blogspot.com/ . I somewhat use her writings as a model… actually, most of her posts are just references to what she finds and I find it extremely useful, concise, and interesting. Another is vultus.stblogs.org/ , who writes with a very unique perspective in my (humble) opinion.

Blogs I favor usually have something different to offer, and not just ventings or ramblings… lol.

My last advice is prayer of course 🙂
