Many books on my Kindle, at least 7 Bible versions on there, a CCC, a You Cat, the US Catechism for Adults, the Baltimore Catechism, both Compendiums.

2 bookshelves in the house, one large bookshelf in my office at work. In fact, at work, when a new person comes in and comments on a book, I ask them to please accept it as a gift and take any others they may want.

Oh, forgot about all of the books I have in storage.

I’ve set a strict “no new books” policy for 2018. Who said that “in buying books we think we buy the time to read them”.

ETA There is also my collection of terrible Catholic books. Ranging from frightfully fluffy to downright heretical.

Oh, one more thing. For those of you with a local public library, check and see what digital collections they offer. My library offers Overdrive and Hoopla Digital. Hoopla has an impressive number of religious books, ebooks and audio books.

Yet, the Kindle Fire has Text-to-speech turning any book into an audio book! So much more consumption of words can happen when you are not tied to reading them 🙂

Except Bibles, the voice reading the verse and footnote numbers gets annoying. Then again, that is why God made audio Bibles 🙂 Formed.org has a good one.

Make friends with the office folks at your parish. People bring in boxes of books and at times it is very difficult to find “homes” for them.

A picture of my “upstairs” book cabinet is earlier in this thread. These are more of my books which I consider mostly Catholic. I earned a Certificate of Theology at a Catholic college and I have kept the books and notes from there. I also am a veterinarian and have kept those books. I have other science books of various topics because I think of science as study of God’s creation. I have had an interest in Creationism and Intelligent Design, so there is a shelf of those books. I am a writer, so I use books as a tool, just as a carpenter would consider a collection of hammers, saws, etc. his tools. I have a blog and have written several books and booklets.

I visited your blog and really enjoyed it. I wanted to write you earlier but somehow felt embarrassed. I also like your book collection. Especially the “upstairs book cabinet” is lovely. Your writing has sensitivity I enjoy as very pleasing, and brings me a feeling of peace that I find in few authors.

they’d likely confiscate them because they’re Catholic books, then I’d end up in trouble. Probably not a good idea to try to buy them behind my parents’ backs, but at least it was with my own money!
Wow is all I have to say about that.

The Truth doesn’t need to suppress alternate views. The Truth is open to criticism and stands against any opposing views whatsoever. I wonder if they know doing such things will only strengthen your conviction that Catholicism is true (which it is).

research opposing viewpoints in the past.
My mother in law is kinda like that.

I just shake my head at her closed minded little bubble world. I could never bury my head in the sand like that - I research anything and everything, I’m a bibliophile and a voracious reader. Look at my hours of reading on my account here - and that only accounts for maybe 10% of my daily reading.

It seems like, thankfully, you’re in the same boat as me and not in the closed off little world of my MIL and your parents.

But do remember to tread carefully and honor them. However, I believe parents “laws” are the same as secular laws. It’s good to follow them - until they are unjust. If they create “laws” which hamper you from practicing or learning the True Faith, those laws don’t deserve to be followed but only broken.

That is an AWESOME collection.

I would hermetically seal myself in that room with that glorious bookshelf and just go to town on those books.

Please let me know if you would be interested in advising or making book recommendations for the Christian Book Fair.

I just got a 1940s P.J. Kenedy Douay-Rheims Bible to add to my collection to replace my softcover TAN Douay Rheims which is falling apart.

I think it really says something that my PJK DR which was printed in the 1940s and has a hardcover and sewn binding is still in great condition, whereas my paperback TAN DR printed in the early 2000s with a glued binding is literally falling apart.

Check it out:

This is great for me a busy mother but not a good replacement for reading books for children…learning to read as opposed to being read to has so many more qualities. We listen to audio books in the car on occasion but the kids read real books every day.

My include by Pope Francis,St Augustine,Chesterton,Jonh of the Cross,IgnasioLoyola,Bible,Gospel, some common readings,Books about Preparing for Confession, books about Legion of Mary…
