I would like to know of any real good books on explaining the Catholic Beliefs. The ones I have are Surprised by the Truth…Home Sweet Rome. A guy at my husbands work place is asking questions.

Do you know what?
Forget the books and ask all your questions here in CAF. I am not talking about me, but you find here very smart and faithful guys ready to help and patient on the answers. Moreover, you see many sometimes contradictory versions what will help you get the whole view.

I am not speaking for CAF moderator and administrators, I am just a member, but do not be shy to put forwards ALL your questions.

Hi,

I am not sure what kind of questions are being asked. Could you tell us more so we can give you specific books to address those problems.

If you just want an overview of Catholicism to give to your husbands co-worker then I have heard that Catholicism for Dummies is a good one. I have not read it myself though.

If you are looking for good conversion stories along the lines of Rome Sweet Home and Surprised by Truth then I would recommend David Currie’s Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic.

You can also try A Bibilical Defense of Catholicism by Dave Armstrong.

Try Gus Lloyd’s website. He has a booklet called “A minute in the Church”. They are very affordable and concise. He and Scott Hahn had a radio show a few years ago, now Gus had his own show on XM radio. Highly recommend.

I like that the author writes this book for two different groups; it is for the Non Catholic Christian who wants to know more about Catholic beliefs and it is written for the Catholic Christian who want to know more about his/her faith. Alan Schreck writes in a style that is easy to read yet explains well what Catholic believe. I re-read sections of the book when I have to teach an RCIA session on a certain topic (such as Mary, the Saints, etc).

‘Catholic and Christian’ by Alan Schreck

I actually didn’t like this one. I found him to be a little to concilliatory almost at times seemingly to apologize to Protestants for Catholic beliefs. It annoyed me a little. To each their own though.
