Catholic but not married by church

My husband and I married in a chapel. We wanted to get married in catholic church but he did not complete the sacrament of confirmation. As a child he attended mass regularly, but after his sister’s death, the whole family change. It’s been 15 years or so. No one in his immediate family goes to church anymore. I take our children to mass and I want them to be devoted catholics. I myself want to learn more about my religion. But it doesn’t feel right because we aren’t married by church.

Talk to a priest about getting your marriage convalidated (sometimes called “blessed”). Then you’ll be in good standing and able to return to the sacraments.

It’s long after the fact, but confirmation is highly recommended but not absolutely required in order to be married.

Bringing your marriage into the church may be the stimulus your husband needs to return as well.
