I just thought I’d pass on a nice story. I bought my 3.5 yo daughter ‘Bernadette: The Princess of Lourdes’ on video. She’d seen it on EWTN and liked it. Anyway, she has watched it a number of times now, and at the Target the other day she announces out of the blue ‘I am the Immaculate Conception’. I laughed and informed her that she was NOT the Immaculate Conception! We had a nice laugh about it and had the opportunity to discuss Mary in public where other people could over hear us (think: evangelization moment). The more important part is that she now knows that Mary is the Immaculate Conception–at 3 years old. I know plenty of adult Catholics who don’t know that!

My point is that the video is a fun way to reinforce the concepts you are trying to teach your kids about the Saints. I’m not recommending that you put your kid in front of the tv for all her religious education, just that the videos can really reinforce the things you are reading to her or telling her.

As much as I love Veggies, I am just delighted at the Catholic videos from CCC. Maybe Phil Vischer will convert??

God bless your Catholic families 🙂 ,

We have the Saint Patrick and Saint Nicholas videos from CCC also. I only wish there were more of them. I think there are only 10 or so total. My girls love them I think because they present real stories but in a dramatic way that catches their interest.

BTW, I heard Veggie Tales/Big Idea went bankrupt. We got a letter saying they were sorry but our fan club membership was no longer going to be honored, etc. I wonder what went wrong? I liked many of the videos, but some of the offshoots seemed a bit thin. (The 321 Penguins and LarryBoy cartoons, not the regular computer animated series.) Well, we have most of the music CDs, so we can still enjoy them. I’d have to say Lyle the Kindly Viking is my favorite.

I do wish there were more Catholic videos out there since children seem to have an insatiable appetite for TV entertainment.

I personally like ‘Storykeepers’ and ‘In the Beginning…Stories from the Bible’. Maybe go to the EWTN Religious catalogue and browse around.

go with God!

My friends kids and my kid like the shows about the saints. Her kids really like the one about Fatima and my son is a big fan of St. Juan Diego.

Her kids are very good about wanting to pray the Rosary – they are 5 and 6 years old.

I would like to get one St. Martin de Porres.

Last year apparently. Lost a $10million contract dispute with a distributor. Ouch. Assets sold to another company.

Anyway, they were trying to become another Disney, and lost focus. 2D cartoons, 3-2-1- Penguins which was pretty weak, video games that seemed hurried, content that was increasingly light on religion. Etc.

I think the principals are still associated with the company. Hopefully they’ll be able to do quality work again.

From what I understand, CCC of America is hoping to continue its series of Saints, and are in the planning stage for those.

Also, if you are not familiar with the “Brother Francis” animated kids DVDs, these are excellent for kids 8 and under. They contain VERY high quality animation, awesome songs, and are VERY Catholic. So far, there are 4 DVD titles in the series (Let’s Pray; Bread of Life; The Rosary; and Forgiven) They also offer terrific Brother Francis coloring books and prayer cards which are really well done.

In any case, if interested, the site is: BrotherFrancisOnline.com

Happy viewing. God bless,

Larry
