“Does anyone remember when she tore a picture of the pope during her performance on Saturday Night Live?”

That incident was so shocking and upsetting for the people of SNL that they refuse to let it be seen again-even in all those SNL clip shows that we see on TV.

And when did Harry Connick, Jr convert to Catholicism? He used to be an Evangelical. In fact, if I remember correctly, his father was/is an Evangelical minister.

And I know that technically Martin Sheen is a Catholic, but I hate lumping myself in the same category as someone who stars on The “Left” Wing.

I really hate to seem judemental in anyway but does John Gotti really belong on that list?

What’s even worse is he’s using Fulton Sheen’s last name as his stage name; he even got permission from the Bishop to adopt the name when he was a young actor. As pro-American and anti-communist as Archbishop Sheen was, I kinda doubt if he’d care too much for his namesake’s leftist antics today.

Timothy Goebbels (figure skater known as the quad king, won Olympic Silver in SLC). He attends mass several times a week and other skaters know that he is “religious.”

Also Tara Lipinski, the Olympic gold medalist. Raymond Arroyo had a nice interview piece with her on The World Over last year.

I also forgot to mention one of my favorite celebrities of all time-Gene Kelly. He was a devout Irish Catholic and a phenominal dancer and choreographer, too. TCM has been showing musicals all this month, and they featured several of his.

the one i think is a true gift to the publicity of our faith is MEL GIBSON! what a God fearing man i was so impressed by his work on the Passion of the Christ. i saw people in the theatres hit there knees and repent. it was incredible. the world could use more celebrities like him. if you get the chance to see his biography on A & E or his E True Hollywood Story, both are really fascinating.

Harry Connick Jr is a Catholic. See the link below to his own website.

*Connick’s *other compositions touch on different seasonal emotions. “`I Come with Love’ is a Catholic layman’s view of Christ’s life in three stages, paralleling the Holy Trinity.

Not sure about HC Sr being an evangelical minister either.

Sorry, my mistake. I just did some online searching and discovered that Harry Connick, Jr.'s mother was a judge (very impressive) and his father was the District Attorney for New Orleans.

I love his music, but I do wish he hadn’t been a semi-regular on “Will and Grace”.

Thanks for setting me straight, though.

Joe Torre–He has a sister whose a sister.

Conan O"brien comes to mind.

ummm, Brooke Shields

Wasn’t Tom Cruise raised Catholic?

I saw Patricia Heaton mentioned. She was raised Catholic but switched to Anglican.

Is Martin Sheen really on the left or does he just play the part in his TV show???

The big piece of gossip that I remember from college was that Harry Connick Jr. and his Victoria’s Secret bride waited until marriage. I would always tell my guy friends “If Harry can wait, and he’s marrying a top lingerie model, then why can’t you?”. 😃

Cove,

Martin Sheen is very much on the left. Everyone on the show is, so let’s just say that you probably won’t see Mel Gibson doing a guest-shot on The “Left” Wing.

Didn’t Arnold Swartzenneger (forgive the spelling!) just sign a bill promoting EMBRYONIC stem cell research??? :nope:

he sure did 😦 I have heard, however, that Martin Sheen is pro-life, despite his other leftist silliness.

More Catholic Celebrities/Sport Figures…

Rob Thomas (Lead singer of Matchbox Twenty)
Jasmine Trias (American Idol-Season 3)
Julia Demato (American Idol-Season 2)
Anne Rice (Famous novelist)
Martha Stewart (I think we all know who she is :D)
Jackie Robinson (Legendary baseball player)

Mike Ditka - he is very active in supporting Misericordia (two homes run in Chicago for disabled children/adults)

Wow, no one remembers Bing Crosby? He was probably America’s most famous Catholic in the 1930s and 40s. I just finished a bio of Crosby, and it went into some depth on his very good Catholic education at Gonzaga, before he dropped out at the last minute to go to Hollywood. Not sure how good a Catholic he was in his personal life, but they say that no matter how much he partied, he’d never miss a Mass, and would show up still pretty soused sometimes.

Sheen was his mother’s maiden name. He is Mexican-Irish. Martin Sheen’s last name is Estevez, like his son Emilio.
