Catholic "Celebrity" encounters

Bill Cosby is good friends with My Parish Priest back home in DC. Even tho he isn’t catholic himself( that I know of) He does donate occasionally to our old and slowly deteriorating church. Not so much the building as it is the parishoners getting old or moving away but that’s a story for another day.
 
i went on the CA cruise last year and met some of the CA “celebrities”
 
When I was a novice in a monastery in Colorado, Cardinal (then Archbishop) Stafford brought Mother Teresa and two of her Sisters to our monastery for dinner.

She and the Sisters prayed Compline in our makeshift chapel (our regular chapel was undergoing renovation) and was in the chair right in front of mine. I was totally fixated on her sandaled feet – the work they’d done bringing the radical Love of God to so many places on this earth.

We had a house full of retreatants (40) that weekend and couldn’t tell them Mother was coming, for security reasons. They were stunned when they saw her at Compline.

Just the other night we met Fr. Jonathan Morris of Fox News…

In 2001 our family had a private audience with Pope John Paul II.
 
I have met Father Corapi, he is very nice, humble and not an
outgoing personality as he is when preaching. I also met
Raymond Arroyo at a book signing a few years back. I was
very impressed with him, also very nice! 🙂
 
The Mother Theresa encounter definitely wins so far.

I’ve met Fr. Corapi and Fr. Pavone. Both great priests and just as great in person.

I go to Franciscan too and see Dr. Scott Hahn around.

I’m really surprised no one has mentioned this yet but I encounter a Catholic “Celebrity” everytime I go to mass…

I realize he’s Dr. Hahn. But after having dinner with him once or twice, it feels kinda weird to call him Dr.

WOW! That’s awesome! To see her would have been amazing.

I’m only a Catholic of one year so I haven’t gotten to meet any Catholic celebrities. I wish I could have 5 minutes with Mother Angelica, even with her health the way it is now, because she means a whole lot to me!
 
It’s almost hard for me to think of people as “celebrities” as I’m used to just looking at everyone on an equal footing as people. But I do have a funny story about meeting Fr. Groechel. He seemed to be milling around at the airport subway station, trying to figure out how much money to put on his farecard or something. I stopped and said hi.

“You watch a lot of television, do you?” he quipped.

“I know you don’t!” I shot in response.

Without missing a beat he said, “I can’t watch you back.”

I’ve met Cardinal Avery Dulles a few times. He’s a friend of the family.

My brother has worked with Mother Teresa and Fr. Groeschal.
 
I sometimes tend to get a little excited about celebrities. When the “Passion of the Christ” came out, my sister knew a friend of a friend of Jim Caviezel. I guess I must have seemed a little too eager, and asking too many questions when my sister said,
“You do know he’s an actor and not really Jesus. right?”
 
A few years back I turned out to be Nellie Grey’s (of March For Life) impromtu escort to a pro-life dinner banquet ballroom when she got lost in the hotel and didn’t know where to go.
 
If anyone is familiar with the Catholic rock band Critical Mass, I went to rosary group at the lead singer’s (Dave Wang) house weekly all through university. An awesome guy with many adorable kids!
Other than that, I have no claim to fame, I’ve never even met our bishop 😦 I would LOVE to meet Fr Corapi, and of course, the Holy Father 😃
