When someone says Catholic do you think Christian? Or if you think Christian do you think Catholic?

Maybe![]()

My mother in law thinks we’re pagan. Besides who said I’ve never met him [the Lord]?How sad that this even has to be asked.
A lot of Catholics like to know if you are catholic or an “other” kind of christian. Why? Not completely sure but I suspect it is the "one true church’ thing.
A lot of (non-catholic) Christians like to know if you are (uh-oh!) catholic or not. Why? Not completely sure but I suspect it has to do with the whole pope/Mary/eucharist thing.
We SHOULD always go back to the Word of Jesus . Did He not say that all who believe unto Him shall be saved?
So I include everyone under the umbrella of Chrsitianity as belonging to Christ.
If you don’t, well, argue it with Him when you meet Him.![]()
What makes you think I haven’t met him already? How sad that this even has to be asked.

When someone says Catholic I certainly think Christian. When someone says Christian, I think of a person who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; He died on the cross in order to open the possibility of salvation for mankind; and that he rose again from the grave on the 3rd day. This can include any number of denominations and of course includes the Catholic Church. When someone says Catholic do you think Christian? Or if you think Christian do you think Catholic?
I mean face to Face, in heaven. But I was jesting. Sorta.

When someone says catholic, my heart aches. When someone says christian, I think of Jesus. When someone says Catholic do you think Christian? Or if you think Christian do you think Catholic?
It depends on the context. If someone says “Catholic” or “Cattle Tick” or “Mick” (euphemisms used here sometimes), and they haven’t been in church for 10 years, or only show up at Christmas, Easter, Funerals and Weddings, I reserve my opinion. When someone says Catholic do you think Christian? Or if you think Christian do you think Catholic?
When someone says “Catholic” I think Christian subcategory. When someone says “Christian” I think follower of Christ. Which visible church isn’t a main concern of mine. But I suppose all of them are Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant (catch-all for everybody who isn’t Catholic or Orthodox). And being in a church doesn’t make you a Christian, anymore than being in a garage makes you a car. When someone says Catholic do you think Christian? Or if you think Christian do you think Catholic?
Similarly, I am catholic but not Catholic, and orthodox but not Orthodox. I’m Protestant only by default, not being Catholic or Orthodox. We must not forgot, dear friends, that the adjective catholic was applied by Ignatius to the most holy faith first handed to us by the apostles. Hence, to describe someone as Catholic, it means that they are a Christian who adheres to the faith which is according to the whole of the doctrines that the apostles gave us.
Gnosticism is not catholic because the whole faith teaches that the Word became flesh. Arianism is not catholic because the whole faith teaches that Christ is divine.
Other heresies damage the faith and therefore remove from its completeness.
Catholic is a descriptor of Christian. I am a Christian. I am also Catholic, but not a Catholic. I am also Orthodox, but not an Orthodox.
You might call me an American Latin Roman Orthodox Catholic Christian, if you wanted to be complete.![]()
I gotta ask… why does your heart ache when someone says Catholic? When someone says catholic, my heart aches. When someone says christian, I think of Jesus.
