Did you know, as a Christian, that if you lived previous to 1521ad. you would know nothing other than catholic teaching, because you would be have been Catholic. Even if you were part of the schism, and left the church, you would have still followed 98+% of what the Catholic Church teaches.
Yes, I do realize this, but since I am not living during this time - I do not. What is the point of this response?
did you happen to realise this, in all your studies?
Growing up I had no learnings of the catholic church good or bad, so I studied MY Faith. The Faith I grew up in. Being here I have contrasted MY Faith to yours and still find that I am on the path I believe God put me on. Could that change, of course! If God wants me somewhere I will go there. Why do I sense a certain attitude in your response?

Are you one of those who think that protestants are idiots?
Did you study where the Bible came from, who protected it all those years and canonized it?
No, I haven’t really studied where the bible came from except to know it came from God and was protected BY HIM, His Holy Word. Really, that is all I need to know. Humans cannot take credit for the bible and what it contains for it was God who told them what to write. All Glory be to Him!

But being here I have gained more information than before and I am grateful. 🙂

Growing up I had never really learned anything (good or bad) about Catholocism and hadn’t given it much thought. When I hear that I am a protestant because I protest the church it confuses me, since how could I protest something I know little about and never gave much thought to??? I may disagree with some teachings but I in no way protest it…
It is the same thing. Protestantism was born and has grown by what is in Catholicism that is denied. If it is true that you have studied (and I believe you) then why did you not arrive at Catholicism? If you did not, it is because you are protesting one or more doctrines of the Church.
Did you know…

That we love Christ just as much as you?

That God loves us just as much as you?
I believe this.
We are told:

John 13:34
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
John 13:33-35 (in Context) John 13 (Whole Chapter)

John 13:35
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:34-36 (in Context) John 13 (Whole Chapter)

Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:9-11 (in Context) Romans 12 (Whole Chapter)

Romans 13:8
Love, for the Day is Near ] Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:7-9 (in Context) Romans 13 (Whole Chapter)

We need to remember to LOVE one another. We will not judge eachother (Thank the Lord!) God will do the judging so leave that to Him.
Yes, but we are also to judge right doctrine. The unity for which Christ prayed is inseparably embedded in adherance to the Truth. To the exent that any of us fail to do this, then there is disunity.
And for those who think we, as protestants, are without Faith or hate Christ (it is so sad that some believe this) talk to God before you spread this anti-protestant gibberish any further…

So in short - protestants are not idiots, so stop treating us like we are… 🙂
I agree with you, but there are some rabid anti-Catholic fundamentalists here at CAF. Perhaps they draw more attention because many loving Protestants are silent?

I believe that God has me on a path and while it is not with the Catholic Church He is preparing and using me to further unity between catholics and protestants alike. There is a reason why I am where I am. Where I will be tomorrow I dunno, but as long as I am with God it doesn’t matter…🙂

I agree with you that if you cling to Jesus He will place you where He wants you to be. I sojourned in Protestant communities for 20 years, and God used all of it. Interestingly, it was 3 years in a Protestant Seminary that brought me home.

However, I do think the doctrines matter. Jesus prayed that we would be united. Unity centers around adherance to the Truth. All who cling to the Truth will be in unity with one another. This is why it is so important to examine what is being “protested”. When I did so, I learned that I no longer needed to protest! May God bless your ministry and your journey.

There is one thing that is often missed in debates between Catholics and Protestants: Sacraments! Doctrine and theology is not just a compilation of huge books with complex vocabulary that is created to divide people, it was created to understand the truth of God and Scripture! Christ gave one church, the Catholic Church, truth, protection from hell, and apostolic succession. The sacraments must be considered here. You say that “as long as I am with God it doesn’t matter.” I believe you and admire your trust in God. However, you can be with God in the closest way possible on earth: in the Eucharist! God is present in the body and blood and can be recieved by Catholics, and adored by all. Try Eucharistic Adoration, it is a great way to bring you closer to God in His very presence.

The point of the response, is that everything and everyone in the church, were catholic previous to the 16th century.

I was once protestant, i do not think you or anyone is an idiot. To be ignorant of scripture is to be ignorant of Christ, and I do not think you are ignorant of scripture. Church history on the other hand, which reveals what the earliest christians were handed by the apostles is a whole other story. After 18 denominations of bible churches, i was tired of schizophrenic teachings among protestant churches, almost all believing different interpretations of the same doctrines. I went to the writings of the church in the first four centuries, and I only found Catholic teaching. Christ commanded them to be one, with no divisions among them, of one mind, one heart one flock, one shepherd, one Faith one Lord one Baptism one God and Father of all, and to avoid dissenters.

the church was virtually a monolith(one) for the first 1500 years of Christendom. The Church was catholic in belief.

How did God protect the Bible? Did you know that every Bible previous to the 16th centurya.d. had 73 books? martin luther, a rebel priest took out 7 OT books and tried taking out revelation, ruth and James, but philip melanchton would not let him. he took away from the Word of God.

by the way, the catholic church decided whch books belonged in scripture and were inspired and which did not belong and were not inspired. this took the most part of the first 4 centuries of the Church, and it was finally canonized in 382ad under pope damasus. Where was the Word of God in the first 4 centuries, and how did people know the Truth for almost 400 years without it? The Catholic Church preached to them.

It (canon of scripture)was ratified again under augustine in 393 and 397 at the councils of hippo and carthage in north africa.

It was not challenged until 1546 when Luther took out the 7 books from the OT.

if His Holy Word is all you need to know, then you had better go and read the 7 books of His Word that Martin luther took out, and then go look IN scripture, where scripture states that His Word is only written in scripture. it doesn’t. but it does say to hold fast to the Traditions which i have handed down to you, both by word of mouth and written epistle.

To love means to obey. While you obey God partly. It means you are lukewarm. Have a look at the Revelation to find out what happens to the lukewarm. I have to repeat what I typed yesterday answering somebody else’s question: as protestants you don’t obye Peter, you don’t eat real Body, you don’t drink real Blood of Jesus, you don’t confess your sins. There were (and are) so many messsages and miralces given by God to us and you pretend that nothing happened, you don’t even want to know about them: Fatima, Lourdes, Guadalupe, padre Pio, Faustina, etc.

I have studied MY Faith and have done research as to what I believe, not what others believe. I have made sure that my belief system makes sense." 😊
Right there is what is wrong. You say MY Faith and what I believe. As Catholics we have OUR Faith and what WE believe. Which is the Faith of the Apostles and the Faith that Christ handed down to us. Faith is what binds us together into one. By not being one we are going against what Christ himself prayed for. How can we be one if we only go by what “I believe” and not what we believe?

I sure sympatyze with what you are saying. and you are right, it is not your fault if you dont know nothing about the CC. you have been taught no other.

As catholics we have great love and high admiration for our Church because this Church is not just any church, it is the Church that Jesus built Himself according to His promise.

Of course if you were not taught about this Church there was no way you could know or see it.

We know that the CC is also referred to as the Kingdom of God. Matthew 13:31 Mustard seed.
Matthew 13:44 treasure and of the pearl.

Matthew 13: 47 parable of the dragnet

So, when anyone speaks of CC as if it was just any other church, we get somewhat defensive about it. Because we see as blasphemy and heresy against the Kingdom of Heaven therefore against God Himself.

So forgive us for being sometimes harsh. not to say that some in here i will not hesitate to be straight forward.

We will defend our faith, our Church, and Her theology always. sometimes may be charitable sometimes may be harsh. the main thing is that the truth must be said. whether some people like or not. intimadation of any kind will not work here.

We are the crusaders for the faith of the CC. we will fight for our faith not with weapons, but with the Word of Truth, the Truth that Jesus entrusted His Church with, 2000 years ago.

History has not been forgotten by catholics our past is very important. forgetting the past is like forgetting Jesus Himself since He is a man of 2000 years ago. Yet He is very present with us today in His Church. so are the saints, our Fathers.

Also when someone insults a priest or the holy father, we take as an insult to God Himself. for these man left the world to follow Our Lord Jesus Christ and lead His flock. it is a serious offense.

if you read Revelation where it talks about celibate men chosen by God here of earth to follow Him always. celibate men only exists in the CC.

How can I be accountable for anyone’s Faith but my own? I said that I have studied MY Faith because I don’t know the hearts of others nor their Faith. So how could I study it? When it comes down to it, how will we be judged? By OUR (as a community) Faith or by OUR (as individuals) Faith? It’s going to be individual. So that is why I make sure I am on the path I am supposed to be on before I start worrying about someone else’s. i.e. Sliver vs Board in the eye…

I belong to a belief system but when it comes to Faith, that’s on me and no other but Christ…😊
