I am not trying to be bias or whatever but I just have to say that the Catholic Chistmas Mass is beautiful and something to see even if you are not Catholic.

If yopu are not Catholic How do you celebrate the Christmas season?

And if you are Jewish what traditions have you kept for hanukkah?

Yes I agree the Catholic Christmas Mass is beautiful and should be seen by non-Catholics.
Now how do non-Catholics celebrate Christmas season. At my Church, because I can’t speak for the rest of them, once a week on Sunday we light the 5 candles one for each day of Advent and the 5th on the last day. Now our worship is not at all like the Catholics but then again were not Catholic. What we do is we have families sing in the choir called family choir, we have a tradition at our church, everyone gets a candle and we light them one at at time representing Jesus being the light of the world, how one little child can become the light of the world for everyone. Mind you the lights are all turned off for this. The pastor will do some preaching on Jesus being born. We do sing alot. Like I said its totally different then the way Catholics do it. But that is the way my church celebrates.

Christmas is indeed beautiful in the Catholic Church! The first Mass I ever attended was Midnight Mass a year ago, and it was amazing. I remember being fascinated by the chanted Proclamation of the Birth of Christ and mystified by the incense, and feeling nearly overwhelmed by the beautiful carols coming from the choir in the loft. I remember thinking it was like angels because it was from behind and I couldn’t see the choir. (I was used to choirs front and center).

And now I am well on my way to being Catholic. My brother is coming to Midnight Mass with me this week!

When I was Protestant, as far as church was concerned, we’d do the Advent wreath with the candles on the four Sundays of Advent, and sing Christmas carols from the first Sunday of Advent through to the Sunday after Christmas. I always thought of Advent as just the church name for the Christmas season. We always had a Christmas Eve service with candles, carols, readings and a sermon - not midnight, and certainly never on Christmas Day (unless it was a Sunday).

I have been to midnight mass in some huge lovely cathedrals, but I have been the most moved by a midnight candlelight service in a lovely old, but very small rural Lutheran Church in Indiana with a very German feel to it, including Silent Night, in German, with the original arrangement with only guitar. Incredible.

You have to love midnight Mass…it’s just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. You can’t beat being at Mass -midway through- the evening. It is so joyful, and yet solemn at the same time.

I love Christmas in the Catholic Church. I anxiously await Midnight Mass every year.

Thank you all for your messages. I am learning a lot:thumbsup:

Does the midnight mass start at or last till midnight?

Our parish has mass at 4:00 and 10:00 today (Christmas EVE). Is the 10:00 pm mass midnight mass?

It’s SUPPOSED to start at midnight, but some parishes have done away with it, or moved it to 10 or 7pm.
