If it was a close friend or family I would make the effort. Life is to short to waste on fools.

A Christian pen pal has expressed serious concerns over my salvation because I am Catholic. His exact words were, " There is absolutely no doubt that the Bible identifies the Catholic Church as Mystery Babylon and the first beast (kingdom) of Rev 13 and the little horn of Daniel 7." I think the burden of proof lies with your friend to establish the links. As you noted in your later response, his “support” is nothing but a set of vague allusions and absurd “facts” unsupported by any real scholarly research… 60,000,000 christians killed? That’s ridiculous. 1260 years of “christian” persecution? What? That’s silly. Where’s the history of this persecution? When you get down to where the rubber meets the road in this argument… there’s just no proof supporting the claims. It’s one of those “Catholic Whoppers” - or a series of whoppers that can only be accepted by those who want so badly to hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be, and to teach.

Good luck with this pen-pal, but I doubt you will change his mind without the Holy Spirit first changing his heart.

Hmm… more good and thought-provoking responses. Thank you all so much for taking time out to help. I see why a few of you would recommend that I not waste my time with this. However, in case I am the ONLY Catholic this person has ever encountered, I want to prove that arguments can be made in a charitable manner, above all. My intention is not to “win” the argument – as you suggest, this may be an “un-winnable argument” if the guy’s mind is made up. Nevertheless, I will at least attempt to kill him with kindness as I state my case. You’ve all been great! Thanks so much. God Bless!

Who she corresponds with and what they talk about is not up to anyone but the OP. But if your corresponding with people realize not everyone has the truth or knows the truth. That ignorance is a common flaw of human beings, and people like to think that they are superior in some way to other people and their belief system.Being ignorant and foolish this person needs to be corrected- if they insist on continuing hostility with you and your church, then you must step up to the plate… If they don’t accept correction in humility then it is time to say ‘adios’ to the pen pal.

This is so much nonsense that if some people didn’t take this seriously, it would really be hysterical. That Mr. Hislop who wrote this piece of tripe and other bigoted books, is still alluded to tells me a lot about the integrity(or lack thereof)of so called Christians.
