And you have information to show that their excuse is not valid ?

There’s hardly any religious songs played at these concerts! There’s no reason to hold these kinds of concerts just to get the younger people to attend! What is it teaching them but DISRESPECT!

What are you referring to? Nothing like this should be held in the Lord’s House!

Fair enough. But could you please describe what kind of concerts these are? What kind of music is being played?

It’s a building, which was used as a place of worship, but since closing as a parish, is now a building which host an EWTN radio station. But look at what God said;

Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
‘The heavens are my throne, the earth is my footstool.

What kind of house can you build for me? says the Lord,
or what is to be my resting place? Acts 7:49

I’ve also lived through the same decades as you! There was much respect for the church (not only the building) but it’s become way too liberal now!

The majority of the music is non-religious. Songs for a “Spooktacular concert” on Halloween, songs about Bugs Bunny & how he got his start; love songs, etc. People are encouraged to dress in hair curlers, robes, slippers, flip-flops & bring an instrument, talk out loud, walk all over the interior of the church. These kinds of activities belong in a church or school hall…not in a sacred Church building…it’s the Lord’s House & should be treated with high respect! No excuse!

You keep talking about flip flops, PJs and curlers… and I’m really confused. No one dresses like that for even a secular rock concert. What are you talking about?

What does that mean?

You say it belongs in a church and then say it does not belong in a Church?

I parsed it as “church hall or school hall”. I’m sure that’s what he intended.

Ok, I’ll try to explain it again…in the church’s bulletin under the advertised ‘concerts’, the music director tells attendees that they are welcome to
come to the concert with their hair in curlers, wearing their robe, slippers or flip-flops! This is disgusting! The pastor approved of these advertisements

& I’m sure the bishop of the diocese is also aware of these ‘concerts’. What a disgrace! You’re right…no one dressed like that even at a rock concert

so why should they be told to dress this way to come into church!? I’m worried about what it’s teaching the young people & how to dress if & when they

attend Mass! Even some parents today don’t care how they dress or even their children’s attire! Some are very disrespectful especially in the summer months

even though many of the churches are now air-conditioned!

I intend to keep calling the diocese or try meeting with a priest to discuss these dopey concerts! They must be discontinued!

Ok, let me explain…I said in a church or school hall…I’m referring to a hall owned by the church! Some churches have ‘halls’
next to them or a block or so away. These so-called goofy concerts at this certain parish should be discontinued!

Hope you understand now.

Our abbey frequently holds concerts/recitals in their conventual church. Often involving the abbot himself who is a prize-winning organist; there is a magnificent pipe organ in the church. Many concerts are held there especially in the summer. Mostly classical, baroque, etc.; once a fantastic concert of orthodox religious music.

Never anything out of place, nothing undignified. It’s a beautiful setting for these events and in fact one such concert brought me to the abbey, and I fell in love with the place and became an oblate! So who knows, maybe having non-believers coming to a concert in such a splendid setting might set off a spark that brings them to Christ.

It all boils down, to me, to the type of music and the dignity of the event. At one abbey in England, I was at concert of ancient instruments, and the prior said a prayer of deconsecration of the church before the concert, and of reconsecration at the end. I thought it was a nice touch that made the concertgoers aware of where they were.

In both the British abbey and our own, the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in a side chapel.

Do you really consider Bridge Over Trouble Water religious themed?

Even if the tabernacle is taken out, it is still disrespectful. If Jesus needs to be removed, you know it’s bad…

It’s consecrated as God’s House for God’s purposes. Mass. Prayer. That’s about it. Not some secular music gig. (that includes classical).

You have that exactly right, AndrewAxland!

Thank you for your reply & I do agree with you on those kinds of concerts! But the concerts I’m speaking of are nothing like that!
They even serve popsicles in the summer months to the attendees & wine to the adults…along with other foods…cookies, pies, etc.!

THIS IS A CONSECRATED CHURCH…HOUSE OF GOD….AND SHOULD NOT BE TREATED AS A THEATER, KARAOKE CLUB OR CAFE!

If they want to eat & drink, they can do that in the school’s cafeteria!

I love classical, baroque, Latin music! In fact, I miss the Latin Mass.

Coming to the kinds of concerts in this certain church will not bring in non-believers! I’ve heard people only go to have a good time…they can run around, talk

out loud…absolutely no respect & it makes no sense just to removed the Blessed Sacrament to another area of the church! THIS IS THE LORD’S HOME AND I WONDER

IF THE POPE WOULD APPROVE OF THESE GOOFY CONCERTS HELD HERE! Can you see people walking into the Vatican in robes, slippers, flip-flops, hair in curlers,

running around, talking out loud & then eating popsicles, cookies & pies& drinking glasses of wine, etc.?! I think not! There has to be more respect inside the Church!

Don’t forget about the passage of Christ entering the Temple to find moneychangers, etc. He became so irate that He overturned tables & stated that this was “His Father’s House”!

There wasn’t a Host in the Temple! Why don’t people see this!? I’m aware of Canon Law 1210 & everything that is being held in this certain church is against every guideline!

Disgusting!

Thank you so much for your opinion!!! I’ve been waiting for a reply like yours! As lay people, why are we upset about these goofy
concerts at this particular church but the clergy is fine with it! The previous pastor & the present music director are obsessed with the

pipe organ so that’s the reason why these kinds of dopey concerts are taking place but I’m determined to put a stop to them! The previous

pastors would have never approved of this kind of music, dress, etc.!

Hold onto your chair…last yr., they even had female ballerinas & men in their attire dancing in the sanctuary of the church & all around the sacred altar

& the attendees thought it was just great! TALK ABOUT SACRILEGIOUS!!! God help them!
